Cellini and Dimino had Francoeur on today and he was actually asked about Contreras at second. A few tidbits from Frenchy:
-Contreras doesn't have the lateral quickness to survive at a middle infield spot.
-Re: Duvall: Frenchy told a story about being asked to move over to CF for three games when he played for KC. Said his legs were cooked after that and the movement in CF is just different than a corner.
-Frenchy also said that he'll be back on broadcasts on Monday against SF. I forgot that he's doing national games for TBS as well (he's out west tonight) and that is eating into his time doing Braves games.

I don't buy that as the reason for his struggles this year, considering he was just fine offensively (and defensively for that matter) when we traded for him and moved him to CF last year.

Has nothing to do with his size and everything to do with the fact that he's a catcher.
ETA: Not to mention, Muncy played 2B at Baylor and in the Minors.

sure, but does simply being a catcher automatically disqualify someone from having lateral quickness? it’s not unheard of.

Unless you are Craig Biggio or Austin Nola (who was a college SS), yes.

Craig Biggio, Dale Murphy, and Josh Donaldson as just a few examples of catchers changing positions and being fairly elite. That being said, Contreras doesn't seem to have that sort of athletic ability.
