Our offense is really fricking good and we will never realistically be out of any game we play in the postseason.

I think we can all agree on that.

However, our pitching has had the propensity to give up a shite ton of runs as of late, so I think it’s fair to also feel uneasy if we have a 3-run lead entering the 7th inning or later during the postseason too.

My argument is that the last 2 months doesn’t really mean much. I don’t think there’s any data out there that suggests the Phillies are equals to us or should be favored in the series. If you do think the “form” is more meaningful than past history suggests or the models suggest there probably is a fair amount of money to be made. If we lose to them it will be the biggest upset in the first round though I’m definitely not arguing they’re not talented. I just think we’ve shown over a very long season we are the best team. We do have some flaws but I think everybody other team has more, which I would argue is where you want to be entering October.

I agree with all of that. It’s very important that at least 3 of Jimenez/Johnson/Minter/Iglesias are good in the postseason. Feeling uneasy about those guys is not unreasonable though I do think they’re all capable of being very good.

Again, their “form” over the “last two months” has a lot to do with what Harper and Turner are doing at the plate. It’s not like it’s two scrubs who randomly got unexplainably hot at the plate like they are the Braves trotting out Jorge Costanza

2017 Yankees over Indians is the gold standard of division series upsets, IMO. Phillies beating the Braves this year would be as shocking as that was.

I wish I was as positive as you brother but I’ve watched this team many a year.

It’s almost like I can feel the October disappointment in my plums

Is nobody gonna talk about what Brandon just said?

“And Brian Snitker will go Johnson to Hand with Mastruoboni waiting to bat, and it’s a good thing Jeff Francouer is in the other booth.”

That may be the best one I’ve ever heard

Holy shite what are the odds?

I just can’t get over the odds of those 3 players being involved in that order

I really am not that positive. I was in this thread several weeks ago rolling my eyes at posters who acted like us beating the Dodgers 3/4 gave us some kind of edge in the playoffs.

I am the rare even keeled sports watcher. It’s very odd, I realize. In whatever year of the rebuild it was when we started like 44-44 I was in these threads literally laughing my arse off at posters who were discussing the playoffs and some type of “grit” or whatever they thought we had discovered to win a bunch of close games. It was basically all luck and the team was horrendous on paper.

This sport especially is about strictly team quality for me. If you have a good team and stay healthy things will normalize over 162. The playoffs obviously throw a wrench into that because such fluky things can happen, which can be very fun when you don’t have the best team like the Braves in 2021. But having the best team on paper is weirdly comforting for me. I know people will freak out if we don’t win the WS, but putting a team like this together is all you can really do and hope it works out.

To be fair, that series did give us a postseason edge considering it will be the difference in home field more than likely.

That was a really bad AB from Ozuna. Smyly was doing everything in his power to put him on first

It's almost like we didn't win the WS just 2 years ago.

Atlanta fans need a collective shrink.

Proof that how a team plays in the final two months of the season does matter

To be fair, many of us lived the 90’s nightmare (1995 excluded)

Every team going into the playoffs has flaws, there is no percent team, even Philly. Though I will say they are probably the 2nd best team in the NL behind us.

People on here are treating the Phillies like they're the 90's Yankees, slow your rolls.
