He's probably our best right handed reliever, and that includes Kenley.

Pitiful.

I don't give a shite about having 3 righties a row at the top of the order, Riley and Olson need to flip to get our best player more AB's.

One of the funniest things on this board was people trying to say that we got a younger version of Freddie back in April when all of that went down.

Casey Close fricked us.

He's having a good season like Freeman did in 2018 at age 28. 2019 is when Freeman started taking off. If Olson follows that trajectory, AA is going to look brilliant.

He's having a decent season, but it doesn't help when you're on a win-now team and it's significantly worse than what you are replacing.

ETA: Meanwhile, it also doesn't help when the MVP-caliber player you lost goes to the direct competition for the NL pennant and immediately becomes their best player.

Just a shitty situation all around with how it played out.

frick work - I'm glad I let the new analyst handle Wednesday Telecon/VTC hell- but frick I wish the boys would have pulled it out.

The hard hitters swinging at absolute garbage from the Phils new closer was disappointing.

Braves are now 17-20 in day games. 46-22 at night.

It seems like we were better in day games last season

I've seen this stated many times on this board. He broke out way before 2019. It was 2016 when he had an OPS of .968 that he broke out. Then he had an OPS of .989 in 2017 in a year that the wrist injury kept him from possibly winning an MVP. He had a step back in power numbers in '18, but was otherwise fantastic again, and then the power returned in '19.

Olson is just not Freddie, and I don't think he will ever be that caliber of hitter. But he's going to give us more years, being younger, and we just have to hope he taps into his power more consistently, otherwise we've basically got Adam LaRoche for 8 years.

This was a pretty bad loss to take right before the Mets series, just when we had picked up a game we didn't expect to gain, with the Mets somehow losing to the Triple-A Nationals. Very unlikely they lose back to back to that team.

Completely wasted a brilliant outing by Morton.

Why would Olson just "follow that trajectory"? They are not similar hitters by profile, and baseball players do not just follow linear trajectories in a uniform manner, guys improve or decline at various ages for all sorts of reasons. And as mentioned above, Freddie had a much more extensive track record with better results by age 28 than Olson has. Freddie had already been in the league for 7 full seasons coming into his age 28 season, compared to 4+ for Olson.

Matt Olson has already produced 3 seasons offensively better than Adam LaRoche’s career year.

Their career OPS is like 60 points apart.

Olson is averaging 38.8 HRs/162 games in his career. LaRoche averaged 25 HRs/162 games.

A 25 HR guy and 40 HR guy is a pretty massive difference.
