Great to see Grissom make the jump, and it'll (hopefully) accelerate his development in the long run, but it does beg the question, what exactly was the point of trading for Adrianza?

AA’s go-to mid-season move seems to be bringing back a player or two that he let go the previous offseason. Familiarity, I guess.

ETA: We still need at least a couple of players who can play 2B, which we thankfully have due to the EA trade.

Adrianza was/is simply an emergency type - can come in late to play defense at a number of positions, pinch hit from either side of the plate if needed, etc. He was never brought in to be an every day option.

Never insinuated he was, but it is very telling that they he won't even start over a new call-up who will be making his MLB debut on the same day he arrives in Boston.

We needed more depth at the deadline, and it was a bad pickup.

I think calling up Grissom is them hoping he lights a fire for a team that is floundering a bit (and I don't think it happens without the Arcia injury either obviously). Could have easily lost last night and we would be within 2 of the Phils who are like 20-10 in their last 30 or something like that.

Never insinuated that you insinuated he was. The question was asked what was the point in getting him and I answered the question.

It's not telling at all that he won't start over a new call up...he has his role and his role is not as starting 2B for a lengthy period of time. It was a fine pickup for the role he was being asked to play. If AA thought he needed a starting caliber 2B he would have gotten someone that fit that role.

This isn't a complicated scenirio or chain of events.

The better question is how are we gonna get Ozuna out of the lineup?

nice to see Austin in the 3 hole even against a righty.

Can we really not find a player that can hit better than Ozuna? Give the AB's to someone, anyone.

5 starters 25 or younger tonight. Wright is 26.

I mean we clearly did. Ozzie isn't back until mid-September.

It's not that complicated.

He's the best hitter on the team. He needs to stay in the 3 hole.

You could make an argument to hit him 2nd to get him an extra AB per game but Dansby is perfect for that role.

We're probably stuck until TDA comes back. That will free Contreras to DH on the days he doesn't catch.

Someone who can step in any play a number of different positions on a moment's notice. He can probably play all four infield positions and both corner outfield spots at a major league level. You need guys like that. He's not an everyday caliber player, though, because of the bat.

If Grissom hits enough to stay up after one of Albies and Arcia comes back, he would be an option. I don't think Snit loves DHing the catchers when they aren't catching because it is good to get those guys off their feet sometimes. Especially TDA. Contreras will probably DH a few days a week when TDA comes back. As the games get bigger down the stretch, I do think we'll see both of the catchers in the lineup pretty regularly. TDA has quietly not hit much at all over the last month or so, though.

I think we will have to judge this move (or lack thereof at the deadline) based on how Grissom does. If he is obviously not ready/outright bad, then I think its fair to say we should have reinforced that position. If he is even fine at the position then I can live with it.

We don't know how ready or not AA thinks Grissom is. Apparently he thought he is ready enough to come in during an injury situation, but not enough to just start over Arcia.

I think getting Drury at the price point he went for is an absolute no-brainer, but after thinking about it a bit you have to wonder a) If the Reds just didn't like our guys we were willing to part with, or if they just loved who they got from the Padres and b) why weren't the Dodgers in at that price? Getting him seems like a very Dodgers move because they value positional versatility and he could do everything they are asking Gallo to do in the field with more offensive production.
