If Grissom hits enough to stay up after one of Albies and Arcia comes back, he would be an option. I don't think Snit loves DHing the catchers when they aren't catching because it is good to get those guys off their feet sometimes. Especially TDA. Contreras will probably DH a few days a week when TDA comes back. As the games get bigger down the stretch, I do think we'll see both of the catchers in the lineup pretty regularly. TDA has quietly not hit much at all over the last month or so, though.

Contreras had a long way to go last year behind the plate and looks like he hasn't made a ton of progress since then in the games where I've really paid attention to him. His lack of framing will cost the team a lot of runs if he ends up having to catch a lot. But admittedly he may seem worse than he actually is at framing because TDA is so good at it comparitively.

This is a pie in the sky scenario.

I know we're all kind of drunk on Harris and Strider coming in and having no real growing pains, but I think we need temper our immediate expectations for Grissom. Granted, that's tough considering we're fast tracking him to the show, but I think his evolution as an MLB player is going to be more of a slow burn that will pay off in a year or two.

From what I've seen of him in double-A, his offensive game right now is just putting the ball in play and finding holes and then using his speed on the base paths. Not sure if that will translate immediately to MLB with better pitching. I do think he will be a .270, low-to-mid .800's OPS guys with 20-25 homers in the long run though.

I don't have my Athletic sub anymore, but I know DOB used to write frequently how much the pitching staff gushes about Contreras compared to where he was last year. Supposedly, he drastically improved his game calling and his English in AAA last year.

Also worth noting that he was not supposed to be nearly this much of a factor this season.

IMO, one of TDA or (much more likely) Pina will be traded in the offseason. They're both good catchers on very reasonable one year contracts (TDA at $8M, Pina at $4M) and the Braves would not have a problem moving either of those guys if they choose to go that route.

I think there is a better chance they keep all three, allowing for Contreras to DH a lot more.

I agree. Harris coming up straight from AA at 21 and hitting like he has for this long has been pretty remarkable. He is everything we thought Pache could be and then some.

In 1,006 career minor league plate appearances, Grissom has an OBP of .402.

That's really damn good.

He's been absolutely raking in Mississippi. I'm really excited to watch him and am really curious to know what the Braves will do with him going forward.

I assume he will be with the team the rest of the year since September is coming up.

I am curious if they give him any outfield work in the spring with a chance of him making the opening day lineup in LF. If not, I assume he and Arcia will be the bench options, or they send Grissom down to AAA to get more AB's.

Id rather have Ron Washington in the 7 hole than Ozuna.

I mean we clearly did. Ozzie isn't back until mid-September.

It's not that complicated.

No, it’s not that complicated. You’re using hindsight. We didn’t need another 2B until Arcia tore his hamstring last night. That was a freak accident that there was no predicting. At least we had a high level prospect to bring up to play that position. What if it had been Olson? Or Ronnie? We couldn’t deal for replacements for injuries we didn’t know we were gonna have.

Yeah we did.

Reports were we contacted the Reds about Drury.

I can’t tell if BJ was being serious about Pivetta sending a message

I’d like to think he was joking but considering Moylan has straight up mocked him for accusing pitchers of targeting batters with breaking balls….

And it could have just as easily been Drury who popped his hamstring last night, and we’d be in the same position minus more assets that it would have taken to get him. Hell, we may have had to give up Grissom. Why do you think we didn’t go after Drury? Just AA’s incompetence? Didn’t know who he was? If he was so cheap and is so valuable, why didn’t they get better offers for him?

What does that have to do with anything?

I'm not arguing that at all.

No idea, the Padres got him for nothing. Considering our weaknesses were IF depth and LF, we definitely needed him and could've gotten him considering San Diego gave up nothing for him.

Because Arcia was doing just fine everyday until the hammy pull last night. He is someone that has been well. This a small bump hopefully and Arcia will be back in 2 weeks. EA is a versatile IF guy off the bench but not an everyday starter. Not that complicated.
