Stop.

It's not hyperbole to say Olson is underperforming as our highest paid player.

I get that he's not performing how we want, and you'd rather we had signed Freddie (I do too)

We're well passed the tired "Freeman vs Olson" argument, it's pointless. This is solely about Matt hitting terribly. If Freddie was putting up these numbers, I'd be saying the same thing.

Olson is on pace for

4.2 WAR

.230
.367
.491
.858

42 HR
113 RBI
132 R

Are we really trying to pretend this is bad or Uggla/Upton territory?

He runs hot and cold as we all know. The average and whiff rate were very similar last September to what he’s going through now and then he was our best player from the Mets series through the playoffs.

He will likely go on a .330/.430/.630 15 day run soon and then a whiff spree soon after. He has been a borderline top 5 1B this year despite “hitting terribly”

You're right, he's hitting just fine. It's because you put it in quotes that made the difference.

It's like people are afraid to admit Olson isn't playing well. I don't get it.

Vol you know those projections are inflated because he was playing like a mad man for the first couple weeks but he has been a black hole ever since. Plus his defense factors into that when I'm solely talking about his offense. He has a wRC+ that's lower than Joe Conner right now. So... yeah, that's not ideal.

How much you want to bet that Olson finishes the year with a WAR below 4? I will send you my venmo right now. I win either way because I either get your money or Olson actually stabilizes.

It doesn't really matter if he's at 4 WAR or not, he's worth 22 mil a year based on the current market even if he only produces 3 WAR.

You seem to have a 2000s value of players stuck in your head and are fixated on it. 20 mil a year isn't that much for a solid player these days, as long as he's not down in the 2 WAR range he won't be underperforming his contract.

Now would I be happy if he's producing in the low 3 WAR range? Not so much, we need him to be better to go far in the postseason. But even then it's about being hot at the right time.

Olson is Adam Duvall playing first base.

You make a good point. If you just remove the time period where he was playing well. He actually is doing poorly.

You actually think this is a good point?

Do you not understand how MLB works?

EVERY hitter whose ever played the game sans Ted Williams or Tony Gwynn goes through hot and cold streaks.

Does it say in the article how much they’re paying for this patch? I don’t have a sub.

I never said Olson doesn't go through hot and cold streaks, so not sure where that strawman is coming from.

The problem is that his cold streaks last a hell of a lot longer than the hot streaks.

That's all you got?

So you don't understand how averages work over the course of a season?

You really think thats only hot streak Olson will have over the course of 162 games?

Can't speak for him, but of course I don't think that.

I just worry that the cold streaks are more prominent than the hot streaks.

Why is it yellow?

Danny what’s his name says “Quikrete fast setting concrete in the red bag”.

Red would at least camouflage better.
