He's got a reputation of being a bad clubhouse guy.

I don't care about his sex stuff, what you do behind closed doors should remain that way and I think MLB blackballed him IMO but I can't get past his rep of not being good in the clubhouse.

If losing Freddie and and then Dansby two years in a row didn't destroy the clubhouse, I think they can handle Bauer for a year even if most of the guys despise him.

Exactly. I guy like Bauer is exactly what this team of softies (exception of Riley) needs. I love our team but we are soft. Gray and Hader were options for this past season and we saw how our pitching just caved. Fried has been a no show and Morton actually was a no show. Just soft. Bauer would actually say what nobody wants to say but needs to say. All I know is the 2 years the Braves have won the World Series we had guys like David Justice who wasn’t scared to piss off the entire fanbase and a guy like Joc. We need guys willing to stare down a dumba$$ and not be the dumba$$.

Look, I get that everyone is team Bauer because he's a face of the anti MeToo movement, but what you said above is not who Bauer is, not even close.

He's not some clubhouse hardass who says shite to galvanize the locker room. He's a socially awkward recluse who fancies himself an intellectual among meatheads in the sport. If you're looking to bring him in to be a clubhouse leader, that's a colossal mistake and could really frick shite up. However, if you think the clubhouse is already strong and cohesive enough to deal with his shite, then you definitely use a flyer on Bauer to see if you get the best out of him because, at his best, he's one of the best pitchers in the game.

I don't think he would tear the clubhouse apart. He was known in Cleveland as one of the hardest workers on the team, someone who was always looking for ways to get better. I also think he is a guy who wouldn't wilt like a scared little kid in the bright lights of the playoffs like everyone else (besides Riley) did this year. I actually think he would relish the opportunity to pitch in a playoff road game.

The one hangup I'd have with Bauer is that his Cy Young season in 2020 was very much sticky stuff enhanced.

If you're bringing him in for the reasons you stated then you're gonna bring him in for the wrong reasons and risk causing a clusterfrick in the clubhouse. He's had a rep of being a cancer since his days at UCLA. I'm out on Bauer. And nobody can convince me otherwise that he's a good fit.

Is Ian Anderson still being talked about? I know he had a rough ‘22 season and then the TJ surgery but I could see a significant comeback season in 2024.

At the very least could he transform into a decent bullpen piece? Just can’t remember the last time I have heard his name mentioned.

What I think would be a significant failure would be AA looking at Fried, Strider, Morton, Wright, Elder, AJSS, etc and saying “Yeah between all these guys, we will make it work…”

He needs to develop a third pitch for me to care about him.

The org is high on fixing Cherinos, too. He had good spin or something, can't remember. Matzek will be ready for spring training..who knows how he will look, but might be a boost to the pen

Oh no, we were all trying so hard to convince you. You have so much sway with the team, we thought if we could just get you to sign off then AA might pull the trigger.

Feel like we've played this "the pitching staff has a savior coming" game before with Soroka. If Matzek does anything, great. Not expecting it though.

Can we stop on the Bauer stuff? Zero percent chance the Braves sign him. Snitker was asked in a presser earlier this year about him and gave a hard “no.”

Snitker's input isn't completely worthless but this FO is going to sign who they are going to sign. Part of the reason he is still with the team is that he does what they say. They have forced his hand on things like lineup changes multiple times.

And I'm pretty sure he said this before recent revelations on the Bauer stuff.

When did I ever say I wanted Bauer to be a clubhouse leader. I never said that. I simply said he has shown to be a guy who will say out loud what is actually happening and needs to be fixed. He criticizes himself more than any athlete I’ve ever seen. Fried and Morton need to be called out because they totally caved and disappeared this season yet no one says a peep. I bet Bauer would have been right there with Strider cussing umps and going up and in on Harper.

Some of you have talked about a cancer - this team already has cancer. It’s a cancer of lethargy. And Snit is the leader of it. We all know we aren’t signing Bauer. Why do we know this already? Because it’s the Braves and they wont bring anyone in who isn’t either cheap as heck or a choir boy. Everyone here saw the antics of our shortstop and yet I haven’t heard a peep from anyone about it. I’m sure Snit would say it’s all handled “inside the clubhouse” which is all he ever says. Well, we’ve gotten our butts handed to us by a team who handles things differently.

Maybe it’s not Bauer but we need someone who can be an actual man and buck up when we need to fight. Right now we have a collection of great regular season no pressure players who can coast to 100 wins again. But when it comes to October who is our Harper who is willing to take on the world? Riley and Strider can’t do it alone. Maybe Ronald actually grows up this off season but that is highly doubtful.

Him actually doing something in the post season (unlike most of the team) doesn't mean he is automatically this leader/hardass we can count on. I just really have never seen that quality from him to this point.

Strider

Strider DEFINITELY isn't that guy

A lot of the time "clubhouse cancers" are just guys that are passionate about the game and HATE losing. Our guys don't like losing. We need guys that HATE it.
