I don't care about his sex stuff, what you do behind closed doors should remain that way and I think MLB blackballed him IMO but I can't get past his rep of not being good in the clubhouse.

Mookie Betts on Trevor Bauer:

quote:

“My experience with Bauer is not anything remotely close to what everyone else’s experience is. I love him. I think he’s an awesome guy. The personal things? I have no control. I have no say. Obviously, nothing ever came from it.

“He’s an awesome pitcher. He’s a great guy, somebody who wants to take the mound every fifth day. But, at the end of the day, I don’t make the decision. That’s a decision that’s not as simple as baseball.”

So Bauer plus one of Montgomery, Gray, Nola, in that order.
2 pen arms that throw hard enough to break through a wet paper sack.
Improve LF or SS.
Quick and easy hot stove.

The former. SS is Arcia's for the near future.

Robbie Grossman about to win a ring.

Will Smith about to become the first player to win a ring on three different teams three years in a row

Arcia is mediocre. We need to do better if we can.

But he is a vaccum at short, I'm fine sacrificing some offense to be strong up the middle defensively.

Why are you lying to people like that? He was the exact opposite of a vacuum this season.

I'm not a big fan of defensive metrics. That has always been more of an eye test thing w/me. And Orlando, while not perfect, is more than capable at Short

And saying I'm "lying" is a bit of an embellishment.

I mean, he was unequivocally not a vacuum at short.

Sure he made good plays on balls hit at him, but he had no range whatsoever which is kind of a baseline quality you should have at that position. The stats only reinforce what a lot people saw this year.

He was/is a good utility guy to have, but he is not a starting caliber SS for championship quality team.

Potentially our entire lineup and our top 2 pitchers are back. At this point its gotta be more about us having fewer unknowns than anything else, plus a better path to the playoffs than most teams. The Phillies are the only team in division that could realistically challenge in '24.

I'd like to see the Braves have a mindset next year that the season is fully a means to get ready for the postseason. The team is stacked and at this point making the postseason should be seen as a foregone conclusion.

What I mean by that is...for example, get Daysbel Hernandez on the 26-man roster from opening day on and let him work through his struggles. If we lose a couple of games because he came into a tight game with men on base in the 8th inning and walked a couple of runs in, then so be it. We've got some real money tied up in Iglesias, Johnson, Jiminez, and probably Minter....it's unlikely we bring in another 15 mil reliever at this point. Get the cheap guys with talent ready to go.

Let Waldrep start the season in the pen. Or bring him in later in the year (only if they don't plan on putting him into the rotation otherwise next year). We need guys throwing upper 90s.

I think they plan on having him in the rotation.

ETA: If he's not used in a trade for a starter.
