Clemson should not even sniff the playoff. There’s no way.

Why should they be penalized for their conference being shite?

I don’t like Clemson, but they have proven they can not only play with the big boys, but also can beat them.

If they win out they should be in.

They should've scheduled better opponent out of conference then.

Undefeated Cincy or a 1-loss team from the SEC, Big 12, and B1G should all get in over them

Problem is that you'll be penalizing Clemson for playing a tough OOC opponent (Georgia) if you leave them out for the Georgia loss. Same with Ohio State losing to Oregon. What would be the incentive for Clemson or Ohio State or any other elite team to ever play a top level OOC opponent again? They would have everything to lose and not enough to gain to make up for it.

And then a team like Coastal Carolina goes unbeaten against unranked teams and all of the talking heads say they deserve a shot…..

Rankings in week 2 do not matter.

So then why do teams like UCF or Cinci get left out of the playoff?

This is why the playoffs needs to stay at 4 teams. If we go to 12 then the Clemson loss doesn't matter.

Since we are playing under these rules, Clemson needs help. They got some help when Ohio State was good enough to lose to a team that they a 14 point favorite in their own yard. Base on what I saw they'll drop 1-2 more.

If you are making your opinion over the last 2 weeks then yeah, Clemson isn't in. Let's just see how the rest of the year plays out.

Unbeaten Cincy might have a better resume
Hell, a two loss sec team might have a better resume

One of the big Pros to these super conferences is that there will be more competition in them. The ACC is terrible. The Pac is mediocre. The Big 12 was on its way to being terrible. The B1G is SEC lite but lacks speed. The Pac really dropped the ball not getting one of Texas/Oklahoma.

Have you seen how many ranked teams have lost games and proven they never should have been ranked?

Using rankings in September to forecast a season is about as dumb as it is fruitless.

This right here is why the ACC is going to die when the grant of rights expires in 2035 (or maybe even a bit before that happens).

Why should Cincinnati, UCF, etc. be penalized for their conference being bad?

The reality is their conference is abysmal and has been for years. They whiffed on their attempt to get a ranked win this year. Schedule more ranked teams or move conferences.

Their previous teams may have but what teams of years past have proven doesn't mean this Clemson team has proven anything about who they can or can't beat

It's way too early to tell.

How many teams finish undefeated. How many teams finish with 1 loss.

If at the end of the season, if there are no undefeated teams, and less than a handful of 1-loss, including Clemson, they will be considered.

But it's pointless to speculate this early

you realize this happens years in advance right? Its not exactly a phone call. They couldn't predict the ACC would be garbage in 2021 and get a ranked team on their schedule in a week

Agree. Clemson has not shown top a top 4 team so far this season. I’m okay with this being a down year and would be okay if we didn’t make the playoffs. UGA was the test and we shite the bed. The ACC is hot garbage but Clemson is not responsible for how shitty the other ACC teams are.

I think most Clemson fans have realized that this particular team has some work to do. Unless they really start to gel and DJ becomes a highlight reel every week that Clemson is going to be in the outside looking in on the playoff picture. I’m sure having two recent championships can ease the pain.
