Since we are playing under these rules, Clemson needs help. They got some help when Ohio State was good enough to lose to a team that they a 14 point favorite in their own yard. Base on what I saw they'll drop 1-2 more.

If OSU and Clemson have equal records OSU is going. Of course it "helps" I guess but OSU currently has a ranked PSU and a ranked Michigan and a top 25 team in the B1G title game.

If OSU wins out they are almost guaranteed to be in. I agree it is possible they are out, and OSU has huge problems they need to fix, but a 12-1 OSU is only behind undefeated conference champs, and 1 loss SEC champs/runner ups if those are Bama/UGA. Oh and a 1 loss Pac 12 champ Oregon if they win out.

I think OSU would slot in ahead of a 1 loss OU or 1 loss Clemson.

But again, this is all looking WAY too far ahead as both teams have a ton to fix before they have any shot of making playoffs

If they win out and look like a top 4 team, good chance they will be in.

Would need some help though.

SEC Champ, 12-1 Oregon/UCLA, 13-0 Oklahoma, 12-1 Big Ten Champ would all be in over them.

They should've scheduled better opponent out of conference then.

Ohio State looks like it could lose a few games this year. They seem to be a little down (like Clemson) and the Big 10 has teams like Iowa and Penn State that look pretty good.

Clemson most likely will be a 12-1 team and if tOSU is a 2-loss team it will be interesting to see who passes the eye test if the last slot comes down to our 2 Schools. Again...it's way too early.

Exactly. What’s also always lost in these discussions is the state legislature of SC...

Both South Carolina and Clemson are legislatively bound to play at least 1 instate FCS team a year. It’s a law. Sort of an attaboy to the other in state smaller schools. Hence them playing a SC State, Citadel, Wofford etc. every year.

South Carolina game obviously isn’t going anywhere, and it’s not Clemson’s fault that both South Carolina and the ACC blow donkey dicks.

Like Ohio State..... they can afford to play shitty teams, have a loss or two, and back their way in.

Why should they be penalized for their conference being shite? I don’t like Clemson, but they have proven they can not only play with the big boys, but also can beat them.

Past merit should have literally nothing to do with a current season. That’s bogus.

They played their one ranked team and lost basically at home. Although not quite. That should matter, especially more, when they don’t play anyone else.

However, let the season shake out.

How. Any ranked teams are currently on OUs schedule?

What if UGa goes through its season undefeated, blowing everyone out and shutting down everyone. And Clemson, who might have its best defense ever, essentially shut down Georgia the same way Georgia shut down Clemson as both teams only scored 3 points on offense. But the only difference was a new/green QB throwing a pick 6 for the difference in the game. If other teams falter, and Clemsons offense gets going as their young QB develops throughout the season, you say they deserve no shot? But OU, who plays no ranked teams, does?

It wasnt basically at home. Fowler said it was 50/50, or 55/45 at most in favor of Clemson.

Have you seen how many ranked teams have lost games and proven they never should have been ranked?

People are weird about rankings early in the season.

Using rankings in September to forecast a season is about as dumb as it is fruitless.

Are you one of those guys who counts "ranked" teams even if they go 4-8?

Rankings don't mean a fricking thing until the end of the year and only 1 thru 4 matter.
