There issue is cap space correct? Once Mahomes gets his 40 million a year they going to be tight moving forward and retaining players. Plus they still have to get a contract for Chris Jones.

Next year Frank Clark and TM3 will count for 45 million against the cap add Hill and Fisher and that is 4 players counting for 75 million before you resign Jones this year and Mahomes next.

clark will be restructured if his head is on straight to lessen the blow of his big salary (18.5M base)

TM7 can also be extended or cut and save 14.8M (b/c it's the last year of his deal)

Hill's contract is interesting b/c i just see low base salaries and huge roster bonuses, so that's ripe for cutting (if he is a bad boy again) or extending

they can save a ton cutting fisher, too.

cutting okafor will save 6M

i don't know what they're doing with jones, though. he's a 1-dimensional player who isn't worth elite money

THey have a generational QB on a rookie contract. I think they are definitely up there. But SB isnt an automatic qualifier. The Saints are better run now than they were when the won the SB.

Well run organization but I don't trust their head coach in the playoffs particularly the Super Bowl.

Falcons fan checking in, and you shouldn't. Deebo was in the process of winning Super Bowl MVP with a horrid QB, and Shanny got in his own way. He learned nothing from SB 51

They're a good organization but they've made some pretty questionable moves at RB signing McKinnon and Coleman when they had good cheap options in Breida and Mostert.

As for Aiyuk, they had to trade up to get him after they lost Sanders who they traded a 3rd and 4th for. Could work out great but that's a lot of capital.

See I think making the Super Bowl with an inconsistent QB like Jimmy G is actually a plus for Shanny. I don't think we lost that Super Bowl as much as Mahomes went out and won it.

Chiefs have made the playoffs 7 consecutive seasons, and won the AFC West for 4 consecutive seasons. Patrick Mahomes only accounts for 2 of those. It’s not like the Chiefs came out of nowhere when Mahomes showed up.

Less than 6 months ago you started a thread calling the Chiefs a pathetic and incompetent franchise & hoped Mahomes escaped to greener pastures

Don't forget part of what propelled SF was 2 years ago Jimmy G tore his ACL early in the season. Because of that they lost a lot of games so they were able to draft Nick Bosa. It's strange to say but that injury helped SF.

I don't know. I feel like this happens every year. A team has competent, strong run to the Superbowl, and everyone is ready to consider them at the level.

Look at the Eagles after their run.

The Rams were also thought highly of for a bit.

Now both those teams have fallen off (not off a cliff, but not where they were by any means).

Prior 5 NFC champs
2014 Seattle
2015 Carolina
2016 Atlanta
2017 Philadelphia
2018 Los Angeles

Pretty much all of those teams were predicted as having wide-open windows to dominate for the next 3-5 years. With the exception of Seattle they all took big steps back the following year or two, despite keeping most of their teams together. The Niners could go 13-3 again next year, or they could be an uninspiring 9-7.

That said, their cap situation and roster management for a non-rookie contract QB has been spectacular. I'll take a few SBs before we can be considered best-run.
