They need to leave this nerdy stat stuff to the Baseball dorks.

I don't need some dumb statistic to tell me who I think is a better QB. I can see with my own two eyes and make my own determination, just like everyone else should.

ESPN's acting like they came up with the theory of relativity here.

I never cared for the passer rating statistic and I still dont give a shite about total quarterback rating. I dont understand why ESPN is trying to force this on us. It sounds just as complicated as the passer rating. The only qb statistics I care about are: td, int, sacks, yds, completion%

Find a way to combine those 5 and come up with a number.

It takes some stuff into account that passer rating ignored. Giving more weight to a 50 yard pass for a TD than a 5 yard pass followed by a 45 yard run for a TD, for example.

It punishes QBs for shitty offensive line play and subjectively tries to quantify "pressure situations" though, so it's still a highly flawed statistic.

You can pretty much count on them cramming it down your throat during every game, Sportscenter, and NFL Live this season.

that too.

what about yac? I dont really think that measures qb ability as much as it does the reciever. but a good qb can put the ball in a good spot for the wide out to make a play after the catch.

Absolutely not. All this thing is is Gruden and Jaws picking apart every single thing possible. Granted, a few things are interesting but the 4-letter network bothers the shite out of me.

ESPN's analyst invented this stat. so you can rest assured they will pimp this thing out all season.

I doubt you hear this on any other network

It bothers me that they ignore other people's research. Sabermetrics built up because it was a community of people reading and refining each other's research. But to come up with a stat and completely ingore the work of Pete Palmer and Football Outsiders strikes me as inane.

ESPN missed the boat on sabermetrics and now they are missing it on football analytics, but in a different way. What's funny is that football GM's have been far more accepting of mathematical research.

They're acting like this is the biggest and best revolution in football statistics ever. ESPN has power and knows it. They love taking credit for the work of others.

The worst part about it is the use football outsider research in their articles and KC Joyner also has some interesting ideas. It seems like their entire organization can clusterfrick sometimes.

Football Outsiders essentially had this stat developed essentially 5 years ago.

Except it was BETTER!

ESPN is saying this is the most comprehensive QB rating system available.

FO does this already and even accounts for the opponent. Meaning, you get a better rating for performing better against the Jets/Steelers than say the Lions/Texans

it is stupid

the worst part is them saying shite like "it was created by a team of experts" and then they list jaws and merril fricking hodge
