The only issue i see with it is how long it takes to come up with the rating
It was be an ingame rating that you can keep up with because it has to be done after te game and after watching all the plays to determine what was important
And plus they put three years into making the QBR and theyve only broken down the past 3 years which shows you how long it takes to come up with the rating and plus it seems a little subjuective by the person who breaks the plays down

I'm not only because there are more robust metrics out there which take everything that ESPN is trying to do while adjusting for opponent.

Hey Soph, off topic but have you claimed your spot in the Friends of Tulane league yet?

See that's what I don't get... did this really take 3 years of analysis to tell me what qb's are elite, average, and suck? Seems like a long lag time for a shity metric/ differentiater.
But, I feel confident ESPN will shove this down our throat..
Even though it isn't 100% theirs and better things are out there. As the say it's good to be king... err... world wide leader.
Like previously stated, do we really need a stat to tell us which qb's are elite and which aren't? Give me a break.

OK, so autodraft right before I go off to my anniversary trip... Awesome. The missus is totally going to dig that.

Yes, we do need that. According to traditional stats, Aaron Brooks was great. However, when you add in situational adjustments, well...
ESPN fails by not having defensive adjustments... FO does this, and they have partnered with ESPN already, so really, ESPN should have just used DVOA and DYAR and normalized them to make them more user friendly.

OK, but is it going to have a 3 year lag time? If not, what will the lag time be? And, ultimately, who will any and all of the subjective calls fall to? Some ESPN team of analysts?

ESPN has power and knows it. They love taking credit for the work of others.
ESPN is a corrupt dynasty. If you start digging into what they did to Leach during the James fiasco and to Feldman for helping with Leach's book it gets really sketchy.

Are people going to take the Total Quarterback Rating seriously
f**k no
in case you have forgotten, ESPN invents everything pertaining to sports. Plus they break all the news and if they don't they just claim it as their own

ESPN will shove this garbage down our throats for a couple years until they realize no one cares
I could be wrong but I don't see it fading away. Sure if they only crammed it down a bunch of msb users who analyze things to death it would die in a heartbeat. But I'm sure the casual football fan watched that and came away thinking "man the passer rtg sucks, this new thing is legit." So like you say, espn will push it on every broadcast, probably on college ball too, until people accept it. I mean the NFL network probably won't use it, but do they have enough pull to counteract espn? Highly doubt it. Yet another flawed, copied, bs concept espn comes up with that everyone will sing their praises for.
