Popular relative to what?
This is what this discussion is about.

When was the last time the rays, or any small market team won the WS?
And TDucen, you don't think there has been an explosion in the popularity of soccer in the country? Why does this site have a soccer board?

If that's how you read the data, then okay. I think you're wrong, as the NBA's ratings are ALSO declining (they haven't rebounded to the Jordan years, and last year's Finals, while higher than the dismal years of the '00s still were lower than the ratings in the 80s).
It's a spike on a downward slope. But everyone is on that downward slope, which is plateauing. And once LeBron stops winning titles, history shows us that the NBA ratings will tank again until they can get a new Jordan.

How do you suppose we make an apples to apples attendance/revenue comparison between college football and baseball?

Other sports. The ones you seem to ignore, and cherry pick data to suit your argument.

Relative to ceasing to exist in X number of years, as the OP seems to be implying.

Hire a consultant company.
Just cause its not easy doesn't mean its not a legitimate way to measure it.

I give it a frick load longer than I give football. And basketball really excludes a good majority of the country from being able to play. Baseball has athletes of all types. Just as soccer does. Since soccer isn't taking off as fast as many would like you to believe in the US, baseball will make a resurgence in popularity with the help of upcoming phenoms like Harper, Strasburg, Trout, Kemp, etc.

I doubt any college football team could ever sustain 50-100k per game if they were playing 81 home games.

St Louis in 2006

Attendance.
A Preseason NFL game held at 1:00 am between the Browns and Chiefs on a Wednesday in the middle of a cow field would draw better attendance than this.

Marlins won in 03
Diamondbacks won in 01
White Sox won in 05
San Fran (some don't consider them major team) 12/10
Angels in 02
Then you have the Rays, Astros, Giants, and Rockies who have played in a WS since 2000

So 1 small market team(who spends like a big market team) being able to win a title in 25 years is proof of parity in baseball?
The NFL has had teams from Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Denver, Tampa, Denver, Baltimote, and St Louis win titles in the last 15 years. That is parity.

To be fair, St Louis had one of the higher payrolls the two years they won.
in 2011 they were one of only 9 teams to have a payroll of above $100 million.
in 06 they were #11 at just under $89 million.
also, they are one of the better MLB franchises of all time so they have a bit more equity with fans than a lot of other small market teams.

The two smallest markets in the NFL won the Super Bowl back to back even.
New Orleans and Green Bay.
