Maybe this board can help me out, I have not seen anything posted about Antonio Moore dying on January 24th. Oh, that is Spc. Antonio Moore. I am more saddened by his death and all the other heirs out there fighting for sports figures to do what they do.
Just saying.......
You are right. I haven't seen a topic or even a post by you about Antonio Moore.
Just saying....

think we're arguing semantics a lot in here by saying more/less sad by Kobe vs a US Military guy. I'm equally saddened by both, but the Kobe one will stick with me more, and I'll think about it more for obvious reasons.
1 is a guy who I never heard of until you just said it. The other is a guy who plays the sport I love and has been a figure in the sports world for over half my life, and I've spent countless hours watching/discussing. It's human nature, there's just an emotional investment there for 1 that you don't get for the other.
But like I said, it really does come down to semantics. I wouldn't say I'm more sad about Kobe, but it absolutely does/will hit me harder for all the reasons above. Maybe that's contradictory and does mean I'm more sad, but if so, I'll fall back to saying that's just human nature, seems pretty rational IMO.
Was gonna post something similar, but you pretty much nailed it, so I’ll just quote yours

I get your point and agree. There way many more people out there than just sports figures..

I was never much of a Kobe fan when he played because I started getting into the Celtics and LeBron when I hit puberty and started to mature intellectually and generally classed him as 2nd banana to Shaq during the dynasty years. I generally always cheered for Boston in the Celtics-Lakers rivalry because I liked Bird more and thought they embodied team for both sides of the court to a greater degree than the Lakers historically. Any admiration I possessed for Kobe generally was from afar those years. I actually started getting into Kobe a couple of years ago when the Lakers retired his numbers and everyone reminisced on his legacy, that’s when I truly accepted and acknowledged how big a killer he was and how genuine his approach was. Since that time, I’ve been a retrospective fan I suppose and it thoroughly shocked me when I learned he died. Thought it was fake news at first.

Overpopulation is a bitch man. All that traffic and open borders doesn’t help with that. I can’t believe those california pukes don’t contemplate that whilst they’re stuck in traffic.

Why did you spit your water out? What makes Princess Diana any more than Kobe?

Anyone else surprised at how upset they are personally by this Kobe news?
He was my favorite player. He made me one of those pieces of shite that would root for the Lakers in opposing stadiums when I was a kid. Living in eastern time, going to bed was a constant battle between my parents and I because i wanted to stay up late to watch Kobe and Lamar on a random weeknight. I even got my start shite posting on message boards trolling the haters when he won back to back with Pau.

Unpopular opinion: I'm tired of hearing qbout Kobe. At least he's relegated this stinker of a Kansas-Okie State game to ESPN2

Kobe Bryant was one of the greatest American athletes of all-time and he impacted many people from all walks of life and from all corners of the world.
I grew up during MJ's realm, so Kobe claiming the crown seemed like blasphemy at the time. Call me selfish, but I always dreamed of the day that we could see MJ, Mamba, and Lebron hashing it out on espn together after retirement. Now I know that will never happen.
Dude was a bad arse and will be missed. Prayers for his family.

I am a Laker fan and was a fan when they drafted Kobe. But his death has zero affect on me or my life. Sure it's sad for his family and friends but I'm not one of those so no biggie.

So you have zero semblance of empathy, cool brag.

I’ve been completely overwhelmed by this...and I didn’t see those feelings coming from a mile away. I actually took the day off from work, not because I was so distraught or so full of grief, but because I just didn’t feel like having the conversation with different people allllll day. Just didn’t want to visit that. I didn’t want to run into that one person in group convo that is the “whys everyone so upset” edgy guy. The other part to this for me, is I found out the news while celebrating my grandfathers 80th bday. There was prob 25-30 people at the party and almost everyone was visibly shaken...including my 80 year old grandparents. The whole enormity of the moment hasn’t been lost on me and so it’s been a wide range of emotions.

I don’t get it TBH. I am more sad about the daughters life getting cut at such a young age with so much in front of her. It’s like the end of A Perfect Storm. The crew knew they weren’t getting out of that storm and right before they let go Whalbergs character wasn’t thinking of himself about to perish. He instead said “this is going to be hard on my boy”. It’s always about the children and as a dad I can’t imagine Kobe having to console his daughter in whatever moments they had until they crashed. And his surviving kids. Tragic.
However, I had turn off the radio in Atlanta today at about 2:00. I listen from 6AM all the way through 5 in my office. It was wall to wall coverage. They just kept playing the same snippets of audio reaction from players and coaches and random stories but none of the radio guys in Atlanta had ever even met the guy so they had nothing meaningful to add. Then they started playing the corniest cliché music (Greenday Time of your life) between segments, comparing it personal family deaths etc. it was just too much. I mean 12 hour coverage?

I wouldn't really say I am upset but I don't think I've ever been more shocked to read something in my life than when I read that yesterday.
