re: Anyone else find minor league baseball a little strange from a fan perspective?

I don’t think minor league teams have much if any true fandom. The people attending want to either see guys before they make it to the majors, or the carnival aspect of minor league baseball.
Plus wins and losses don’t matter at all to the players at that level.

I wish Louisiana would get another minor league team.

Baseball wise, I'm a Reds fan, so I have more of a vested interest in the goings on of the Louisville Bats (Reds AAA) than I do the Lexington Legends (Former Astros and Royals Single A, currently unaffiliated )
And at one point the Bats (formerly the Redbirds) was the St. Louis Cardinals affiliate until the late 90s then randomly for one year was the Brewers affiliate.

Well, they aren’t on the Mariners yet. They are on the Travelers. Arkansas beating Frisco has absolutely zero impact on the MLB teams. I’ve seen countless stars come through that league end up on different franchises at the end of the day. Going to a Travs game isn’t rooting for the Mariners, it’s supporting young guys trying to make it big, supporting the local economy, and having fun
Pretty much this. I have been in cities with minor league teams. It's a fun family night out that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and you get the chance to see (possible) future stars, as well as journeymen playing it out.
I wish BR had a legit, affiliated minor league team (AA) with a 7500 seat park near downtown.

I live in San Antonio, our minor league team is the missions. They have been the affiliate of the dodgers and brewers (probably among many other teams) but now they are with the padres.
I don’t like the padres. Can’t stand em. I still root for the missions.
To answer your question, yes, I have thought this is strange before.

The Corpus Christi clippers were once an affiliate of the Milwaukee braves.

Yeah are there really more rangers fans than Astros and cards fans in Arkansas?
Doubt it

If you are a fan of the major league team as well why wouldn’t you

There are probably more padres fans here than there should be thanks to them having the affiliation.
I think some people do pick a team based off that.

There are definitely minor league fans that want the team to win the championship or whatever, even though it might not matter all that much. Some of these people have season tickets

From when I lived there seems like it was mostly Cardinals and Rangers.
I mean places like Texarkana and the southwest parts of the state are only about 2-2.5 hours from Dallas.
NW and NE Arkansas are either Cards or Royals fans

Bc they change so much… 4-5 years it’s a different team

They aren’t rooting for the Mariners… they are rooting for the Trav’s.

The local AA team is a Cubs affiliate.. I'm an Astros fan but the Astros' AA team, Corpus Christi, is in a different league so they never play here.
For that reason I cheer for the local team when I go, but mostly just want to enjoy some reasonably priced decent quality baseball.
I do notice whenever the Braves' AA team is in town there will be a lot of Braves gear. They're the closest MLB team until Nashville happens.

It’s mostly just local fans supporting their local team
And people, mostly older folks who want to get out of the house, have something to do besides a movie, grab a cheap dog and beer on a nice day like going to the public Park...I don't think anyone takes the "fandom" part seriously.

thought people just went to drink beer and watch some baseball its really not that serious
It’s a fun day out at the ballpark. And it’s affordable. Every now and then you see a MLB star doing a rehab stint.

All the fans’ money for that is being spent on LSU

I'd buy season tix to a minor league team and have never had LSU BB season tix. I am sure I am not alone.

Okay. Take the Arkansas Travs for example. They are with the Mariners. Half of Little Rock are Rangers fans. Why would they root for the Mariners when they are a division rival
PERFECT example.
I am also a Travs fan but not a Mariners fan.

Maybe you’re over thinking it. I’m a lifelong Astros fan and have spent many years attending Nashville Sounds games because they are close to home.
If the Sounds played an Astros affiliate, I want both teams to do well. I won’t be upset like an 8 year old if the affiliate loses, I just want to see all of them play well.
