Anyone else find it strange that the shot clock is not reset upon a def foul?

This rule doesn't make sense to me. I can't be alone here, huh?

It resets to 14 if the shot clock is under 14. If it is over 14, it just stops and picks up when the ball in inbounded.

Makes sense to me. You don't have to bring the ball up court, no need for a full shot clock. Keeps the speed of the game up.

I find it strange that they would bother setting such a threshold. I feel like it should be reset to 24 after any and every defensive foul. Is the only purpose of the current rule to maintain the speed of the game?

That's pretty apparent.

I think it's fine where it is.

Think this goes to the 10 second rule for getting across half court.

Shot clock used to reset to 24, nba changed the rule a few years back to increase scoring and speed up the game

I'm sure they just squeezed in more commercials like the NFL did for total run time to remain the same.

Wonder what the # of possessions difference came out to though.

The offensive team is sometimes getting penalized for a foul committed by the defense. Defensive team commits a foul and now the offensive team only has 14 second (sometimes more) to inbound and begin their offensive scheme.
