Rush blew it. He was in like Flynn and he had to make that ignorant and provocative statement about McNabb.
Sadly, I agree with this. If he gets blocked out, it's his own fault. He has made his money by playing this role, yes, I believe that he is role playing for ratings. Rush knows how to make money, and he's feeding it to the public.
Interesting that the Michael J. Fox stunt is much more degrading, yet there isn't much outcry over that at this point. We're all trained to look at race in this country.

Heck, this article probably surprised all of the people who call him an Uncle Tom.
Hell Whitlock constantly dogs black athletes. I guess he's racist.

quote:That is a really poor way of describing what he said. And it basicaly sums up why so many uninformed people think he is a racist and a bigot.
Let's not pretend that ESPN hired him to say Mcnabb was overrated cause he was black.

I was stunned when Tom Jackson and Michael Irvin went so apeshit over it.
I don't think Tom was that broken up about it. His commentary on the following week's show was some of the worst acting I've ever seen. But that's a story for another day...

I agree. If Rush didn't try to go over the top and add the racial element into it, no one would have said anything, because he IS over rated. Hell, I've been the one on here telling you guys that McNabb has no heart and that TO was right about him...
if he had just said "the media want him to succeed because he is personally well liked and popular but he is really an average QB" then no one cares

don't be so naive, they hired him to be rush limbaugh and they weren't prepared for the fall out he caused by being himself.
I stand by it. If he would have gone to the ESPN heads and said I'm going to say this...They would have told him not to.

And how would you describe it?
He said
quote:
The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve
How is that not overrated cause he is black?

Little bit of a hijack, but I agree. If McNabb would have gotten his chubby arse into the gym maybe he wouldn't have been out of gas in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl. Instead he wants to bitch about black on black crimes. Sheesh.

you act like they put him on the air without knowing who he was
do you think ABC was unfamiliar with Dennis Miller's act when they put him on MNF?
When they agree to put you live on the air, they endorse you and your act and they take responsibility for what you say.

The point is, no one had a problem with Jay Z and no one does now. But Rush (an entertainer, just like Jay Z) is a problem? Come on.
Jay Z don't try to divide people, use scare tactics to scare people. Jay Z don't bring up people's race, skin color, religion, political views, etc. That's what some people are opposed too. The NFL UNITES people black, white, hispanic, arab, etc. No matter what your political views are people get along.
WHen Rush said there should be segregated buses that says a lot. For all I know he probably think sports should be segregated too, I mean a black athlete hit a white athlete recently. He brought up that segregated bus shite to get people riled up and there's a segment of this population that would love to go back to those days.

I think that they thought that he would tone things down a bit, though.

At this point, Michael J. Fox has not played a down in the NFL, which makes that comment a bit less relevant to this discussion.

How is that not overrated cause he is black?

Then I made a bad comparison.

What was this thing that was allegedly insensitive to white people?
All women may not want to hear their female anatomy described by that term. I'm pretty sure that women on the OT have objected to some terms for their anatomy. And that's all we're talking about here, is someone being offended by what Rush has said. Is that a crime now, to offend someone?

I think Irvin took it as an opportunity to snort some coke and burn a BLT.

You mean a way that doesn't make Rush look like a dick right?
Come on, he said it, and he was probably right, but don't try and change the wording of it to make it look more PC.
Rush said Mcnabb was overrated cause he was black, there is the quote from what he said above. Tell me that's not true

nah but they also didn't have him doing a JJ to Crowton "check with me" before speaking. they knew there was some risk with putting Rush on the show, just as Checketts had to have known there'd be some possible backlash to including him in his ownership group.
