Jason Whitlock usually seems rather intelligent on The Sports Reporters but he is really embarrassing himself with is opinion peice that is heavy on typical comments and short on actual facts.

quote:

He's an opportunistic, race-baiting, anti-black entertainer.
This is a typical statement from someone who has never listened to Rush and is rehashing what other people have sent him in e-mails.

quote:

(Jay-Z) owns a piece of the New Jersey Nets and has a library of rap tunes spewing the same kind of black-degrading lyrics, phrases and stereotypes that have made Limbaugh rich enough to buy a chunk of the St. Louis Rams.
I don't even know what that means. Is he really thinking that Jay Z has anything to do with Rush's success?

quote:

Having failed as an NFL commentator,
Another blatant exaggeration.

quote:

Rush Limbaugh would be devastating to the NFL brand. Just as it has in the past seven days, his style of racial politics would upset employees and take attention away from the games.
No facts or evidence to back this conclusion up or evidence that Rush has a "style of racial politics".

quote:

This is the major difference between Rush and Jay-Z. Beyonce's boyfriend raps a bunch of dumb, racist, sexist (spit) but serious people don't take Jay-Z or his music seriously. Jay's expression of self-hatred does not bother NBA players, NBA fans or remotely overshadow what transpires on the court.
Just say it, "It's okay because Jay Z is black".

quote:

Here are two quotes from the best-of Rush Limbaugh racist collection:

"You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray (Dr. King's assassin). We miss you, James. Godspeed."

And ...

"Let's face it, we didn't have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: Slavery built the South. I'm not saying we should bring it back. I'm just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark."

You can argue the comments are presented out of context and were meant as jokes. Then I'd argue that Limbaugh needs to get on the comedy-club circuit and out of the business of attempting to influence presidential politics. Limbaugh wants to be taken seriously.
They are obviously jokingly made statements by a political entertainer taken out of context (which you even admit). I'm quite sure if we went through Jay Z's repertoire, we could find much worse.

quote:

OK, let me bring Goodell's hypocrisy all the way home.
You know what is hypocritical? Your selective outrage.

I have no great love for Rush or Hannity or Fox News. In fact, Rush irritates the shite out of me by being a constant apologist for big oil and by constantly bringing up polls as news (something he said wasn't news during the Bush administration). So I'm not up Rush's arse. But this really pissed me off in 03 and it pisses me off now.

ETA: Okay, I was guitly of TWM (typing while mad), so I calmed down a little and edited out some of my post.

This is one of the best posts I've ever seen on this board.

I totally forgot about the whole Jay Z minority owner thing. Limbaugh isn't going to be a majority owner either. He'll be a minority owner as well. I find this to be a truly remarkable double standard.

I'm sure much more devastating than players roiding up, killing people with their cars, and running illegal dog fighting rings.

The article made me lol, but this part the most

The funny thing about it, if Jesse Jackson, or Al Sharpton were trying to do what Rush is doing, they would be hailed and praised for being Black Owners.....

Sports writers are absurdly stupid to begin with and are already at the bottom of the barrel of print journalism, which says a lot. It's always funny to see them trying to get political.

Jay Z do A LOT for NYC. He even held a benefit concert for 9/11 victims families that raised millions, do a lot of Charity work for the kids and people of NYC no matter if they black, white, latino, etc. What does Rush do for STL??? STL is over 50% black and we all know how he feels about black culture. I live in Missouri and never hear of Rush doing any good things for STL or even caring about the people of that city. But he will point out the bad things in that city and talk negative about that city.

A lot of people judge you by what you do for your community, not trying to divide or tear your community down. I've never heard Jay Z talk negative about the white race, latinos, asians, etc. He don't try to divide people. That's what it's about.

Funny thing is I don't see people calling Rush racist but people are quick to call Stephen A Smith, Jamil Hill, Jesse, Al, Joe Morgan, etc racist all the time.lol. Can we put Rush in the same category with them???

No..he only uses the N-word about 20,000 times in his songs, which is about 100,000x more racist than anything Rush has ever said.

How? What's Rush ever said that's racist.

Personally, I can't stand Limbaugh, but calling him a racist is bullshite.

then you haven't been keeping up. A few have flat out called him a racist

regardless I don't think he truly wants to be an owner of the rams. He's just loving the free pub he's getting out of it

It is bad for business in the NFL, whereas there is not the same kind of uproar with Jay-Z. That was the point of the article.

If so, he is a confirmed idiot.

He is making that point here by comparing the two. He is saying that you can find as many "black-degrading lyrics, phrases and stereotypes" in Jay-Z's music as Rush's commentary. But it isn't bad for the NBA's business. It would be for the NFL's. The NFL is already the biggest sport out there, it doesn't need controversy to sell.

Just say it shite for brains, "It's okay because Jay Z is black".

No I think he means Jay-Z is a musician who spends most of his time on MTV where as Rush is an active member of the media, and political commentator whose opinion is more important than Jay-Z's.

What Rush says is more important than what Jay-Z says

Does anybody really think that Rush being a minority owner of a team will really hurt the NFL's business? This is all just a bunch of bullshite posturing.

Wow...the deflection in this thread is amazing. Sharpton, Jackson, Jay-Z.

I guess if its the only tool you got, you've got to use it.

Look at the shite storm that has emerged from jus the idea of it getting out.

Bad for business or not, I'm sure its a shite storm the commish would rather not have to deal with. And its something he would have to deal with everyday after cause Rush would keep his radio show and every "magic negro, white kids on buses, bloods & crips" comment he'd make would end up on ESPN.com

Since Rush would be the minority owner I'm sure if the commish told this group to replace Rush they probably would do so.

I don't know what that last statement means, but I only pointed out the fact that he is black because he (Whitlock) keeps bringing up Jay Z as a comparison. And why it is okay for Jay Z but not for Rush.
