I cannot wait until he signs his big contract...I already have the thread where multiple posters went full retard and claimed he would get $500+ million bookmarked and ready to bump.

This is helps the angels with their cap number.

An extension will get done. I think it will be huge, but I wouldn't do it unless it was for 10+ years if im the angels. 6 years doesn't do them any good, thats only 1 or 2 years of FA.

that thread was assuming he was a free agent tomorrow. big difference.

i still think he'd get $500MM easy if he was a free agent now.

this "team-friendly" extension being discussed would have him making $35+ million per year of his free agent years

Depends on Trout's mentality. Does he want to become a FA again at age 29/20 or just sign a monster contract that brings him past 30?

500 million? Ok I'll go ahead and disagree with that. I could see 300+ though.

Meh. Paying top dollar for past performance is a Yankee specialty.

If he was a free agent right now? Yeah, he could $500 million. If Boras was his agent, he'd try and make him the first billion dollar player. Pujols got $25 million/year and he was over 30 entering his decline. Trout hasn't even hit his peak yet and he's the best player in baseball.

If I were a GM, I'd pay 10/$500m right now. That only gets him to what? Age 32? He's been playing at a near $50m value level already. He won't actually get that contract because he won't be a free agent until he's 28 or 29, but he will, barring injury or an unforeseen collapse, command $300 million. And that's for the tail end of his peak and his decline years.

6/140 is what I heard the Angels offer is. 6/150 sounds pretty fair, though I'm sure the Angels would love a 7th year. That gets Trout a huge payday while still allowing him to test free agency before he turns 30.

I was reading one blogger say the Angels started their negotiations using Andrew McClutchen's deal as a starting point. He signed an extremely team friendly deal though that bought out his years right? (I'm not looking it up) obviously Trout is younger at the moment and also a better player right now which increases his value.

If anybody would do it, it'll be the Angels. They'll wait till he turns 31 though and lock him up at 30MM a year.

500/10

That's absolutely crazy... even if he was a flat out free agent right now. A person would have to be on a 30 day heroine binge to sign someone to that type of contract.

I can't believe anyone would even think this is remotely possible.

I think the safe bet is to get a monster contract now. I know this isn't technically his prime, but he most likely won't get significantly better than he is right now. He has tons of leverage from a long term deal perspective. For him to be able to lock up 300 million dollars at age 22? That would be huge.

It is really not that crazy. He has been worth at least $50 million each of his two seasons. He is just 22, so you would be locking him up for the rest of his prime.

Plus you have to consider the future inflation in contracts. Revenue is pouring into the game now. Compare contracts of today from 10 years ago, heck even 5 years ago. Just think where they will be 5-10 years from now.

No one player is worth that much money... ever. Those determined worth by those websites are crazy. Everyone would be getting inflated contracts if it were up to those values.

Yea but shitty players would be getting league min.

Plenty of vets make 5-15 million per year and are borderline replaceable
