Someone posted earlier that they are demanding “equal pay for equal play”

But they only play half the games that the men do

Has the league ever made money?

Sportskeeda

According to this article, which was published June 2024, the WNBA losses $10 - $12M a year.

When I asked google if the WNBA made a profit in 2024 when is what I got.

quote:

No, the WNBA is expected to lose $40 million in the 2024 season, despite increased interest and sellout crowds. The league's financial struggles continue, with no profit anticipated for the foreseeable future.

This is from Bro bible but evidently they lost more in 2024 than any other year despite its increase in popularity.

Ok. So NBA owners can pull their charity out then, right?

You just said a few posts above that this money isn’t being shared with the players? Is that the case or not?

quote:

See how that works? NBA owners and teams should not be subsidizing this league anymore.

Not the players problem. They should negotiate the best deal for themselves.

As others mentioned, the only way to get that tv rights deal was blackmail against the NBA rights, but people will act like they WNBA deservingly got that deal on their own because of Clark.

How they got the tv contract doesn’t matter. If the tv network is stupid enough to pay it then that’s on them. The players association should negotiate their pay based on what the future projected revenue should be.

Wow you are very misinformed. I hate the wnba and will never watch, but they actively tried to remove themselves from a joint media rights deal and the nba owners didnt want it to happen.

Here is a front office sports article on it from before the new rights deal

LINK

quote:

The WNBA believes its media rights are undervalued. If the league doesn’t get what it wants jointly from ABC and ESPN, it’s quite likely to negotiate its own separate deal, say sources close to the negotiations—either with Disney or a competitor. Possible packages and proposals are flying back and forth between the two sides, sources tell Front Office Sports, and the WNBA is open to anything. The goal is to maximize the league’s reach and market value.

The nba owners get all the financial data and wanted the wnba as part of their package. Im pretty sure all those billionaires arent awful with money.

The owners make money, the "WNBA" takes all the financial losses. Pretty simple concept.

Also they are gonna make 150+ million more per year with the new rights deal.

Probably because they saw a little increase in popularity and thought “THIS IS IT! WE ARE BIG TIME NOW!!” and went a little crazy spending lol

It’s probably a tax write-off for them.

My question is, why are these simps so triggered by a women’s basketball league that they desperately insist they have absolutely no interested in?

Every players association in every sport…ever…has negotiated for the most they could get. Yet somehow, this women’s league has got these simps’ panties all sandy.

Obviously there are ulterior motives at play here.

Obviously.

The private planes for teams allegedly cost them an extra 20 million so that makes up 66% of the extra spending.

They'll make back 100+ million next year tho so i doubt the billionaire owners are too worried about it

The teams owned by NBA owners just use it as a tax right off. It’s a loop hole

The same thing happens with MLS and its ownership groups esp with NFL team owners also owning MLS teams. MLS never turns a profit either. It’s actually a money pit but the owners make money by owning MLS teams from tv revenue of soccer from other leagues.
