This is a lie, schools have been changing conferences for the entire history of the game. They just started doing it for media reasons within the last 20 years because of ESPN's insistence on controlling the sport. Guess what else has been ruining the sport? Playoffs, transfer portal and NIL. Who put the wheels in motion on each of those and supported them fully? ESPN.

And spare me the bullshite about the coaches being paid. They are more available than the athletes. Most guys don't make it their full 4 years and a small percentage even contribute positively in that time.

For NIL it was clearly SCOTUS and every other lower court who ruled on the case. There's also no way the
NCAA would win a court case in regards to the portal...they saw the writing on the wall. The playoffs were a natural progression...just like every other college sport.ALL would have happened without ESPN.

Nope.Fans want coaches fired if they don't win immediately and don't GAS how much it cost and hundreds of millions are spent on buyouts.

What’s your point? That helps my argument. Coaches can be fired, the athletes can’t. College athletes use to be guaranteed a 4 year scholarship from the start but shark lawyers and dumbass media convinced them that one-year renewables were in their best interest.

Do what? When did this happen? College athletic scholarships have almost always been 1 year renewable contracts. They aren't guaranteed squat.

the athletes can’t

Sure they can and do get run off.Not as common as it used to be but Bear Bryant made his living signing way too many players and then "cutting" them.

Shark lawyers? Blame it on the courts because they almost always side against the NCAA and for the athlete. It started with Spencer Hayward and his "hardship" ruling.

I did.

They've always been year deals until 2012 when multi scholarships were allowed but still rare. LINK

quote:

The NCAA has allowed colleges to provide multiyear scholarships since 2012. Additionally, in 2015, NCAA D1 colleges from the Power Five conferences (colleges in the Football Bowl Subdivision, plus Notre Dame) agreed to implement a rule that prevented multi-year D1 scholarships from being canceled or not renewed for any athletic reason.

So, yes, there are athletic scholarships that are guaranteed for four years, but they are not the norm outside of powerhouse football programs. While the practice of extending multi-year, athletic scholarships has been growing, it is largely dependent on whether specific programs and coaches are open to offering them.

Most athletic scholarships are only guaranteed for one year, but they are generally renewed annually. There are some exceptions to this such as having academic or conduct issues. So, be sure to discuss scholarship offers in detail with each coach in order to get a good idea of what your situation will be.

So you have your timeline backwards and multi year scholarships started in 2012 and are still available but not very common and weren't around beforethen.
