First, I don't hate gays.
I am for gay marriage, and I'm a Catholic.
All I'm saying is fair treatment under the law is what our government is for. It does not exist to tell us what we should believe.

you are not singling out a specific type of person based on something they did not choose, so no i wouldn't say that.

Ok, someone thinks abortion is wrong and should be illegal, does that make them a bigot towards single, pregnant women?

pretty much
and for the "open minded free thinkers" it's funny how many of them, you know, haven't thought about it

again, you are not singling out someone based on something they did not choose, so no.
If you only opposed abortion for women who were born in Nebraska, that would be a different story.

Here is the definition of bigotry from dictionary.com:
How does what Peterson said fall under that definition?
quote:
stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own.
How does what Peterson said fall under that definition?

gov't should not have a say in gay marriage between consenting adults.
period.
end of story.
however a church shouldn't have to marry them if they don't want.
if your church decides they will marry them or won't and their decision opposes your view, JUST DON'T GO TO THAT CHURCH.
why is this so difficult for people?
period.
end of story.

Spot on, but not really what this thread is about

because despite his attempts to soften the language he was using, at the center of his beliefs is an unwillingness to grant gay couples equal treatment under the law. As a heterosexual, he is displaying stuborn and complete intolerance of a sexual orientation that differs from his own.
