Calabasas High's Aaron Butler, a highly touted football prospect committed to Colorado, has informed head coach Cary Harris he's not playing the rest of the season.

Butler sat out last week in the team's 33-21 win over Oxnard and will not play for the Coyotes as they enter Marmonte League play, including Friday's game against Oaks Christian. There are five games left in the regular season.

"He's still on campus," Calabasas athletic director Thomas Cassidy said. "I think he's taking three or four more online classes."

Butler is one of the top dynamic playmakers in the country and rated a 4-star recruit, according to 247Sports.com. He was originally headed to USC before committing to Colorado in May after visiting Colorado and Buffs' coach Deion Sanders in April.

It’s a good move. You get jumped on by one frog, and your career is in jeopardy.

Pretty dumb.

These kids will look back and regret putting their futures in Deions hands for Deions benefit.

At some point every good player at every level with sit out in anticipation of the next level including retirement. I think I’ll start mine out by holding off on playing catch.

I didn’t have the size to play college football, but I wouldn’t give up my high school football experience for anything.

I find this more upsetting than the football part of the story.

Hope he has a long pro career because he seems that he doesn’t care about gaining any IQ points by learning in school and having a fall back plan if he doesn’t.

The majority of these kids fizzle out of sports at the first sign of adversity. They are left with no real knowledge or trade to get them through life. Then the community is left picking up the pieces when the athlete has to result in criminal activity to make a living.

Here to say I'm ok with it....as long as they are taking class, staying in school, and not treating it like a glorified sabbatical.

Honestly, if we still care about school and college degrees, some of the top HS players probably should sit out their Sr. year and focus on academics as much as football to be better prepared for college, especially at highly competitive schools like UM, UT, UVA, etc.

But that's only if we really care about school and college degrees...

What I’m wondering is what is his high school’s record? If they’re going nowhere I
understand it

EDIT- 2-4, they’re not very good

Even if that’s the case way give up on your teammates. Not surprised though.
