Motorcycle accident. On Pinhook road. A van (I think) pulled out in front of them. The girl riding with him also ran track at UL. She’s doing good now, these days, last I knew. However, I want to say she spent several weeks in a coma.
John was from Morgan City/Berwick, so I guess it never dawned on me that the school in Crowley might be named after him. Looks like one of the founders was a Melvin.

This school is a total scam. There was a good thread on the OT last month about it.
The more you dig, the more you see the grift.
"School" is a joke and I feel sorry for anyone that gets conned into sending their kid there.
They will receive a joke of an education and be in debt for the privilege of competing at the lowest level of college athletics.

I know nothing about the school, though I did know the guy it’s apparently named for.
However, if what you say is true and it’s full of grift, then very fitting it’s located in the Parish seat of Acadia Parish.

Why would anyone send a kid there instead of going to a real college?

Lol! Good to see mom and dad doing the right thing for their kids! Go to real college and dominate at the rec center if you want to keep playing so bad

There’s a track meet held every year at Berwick High (his alma mater) named after him. Seemed like a standup guy from what I’ve read on him.

Definitely.

I have a couple medals with his name on them.
I’m pretty sure they did some ceremony for him at the meet one year I ran it but I doubt I paid much attention. Wish I would have though.

Most definitely. He was a good dude. Hopefully this school doesn’t reflect badly on him

It's a Christian school so there will always be people who are interested in it. Oral Roberts and Liberty University both started the same way. Sports and Jesus can be a way to build a university.

Go take a look at their website. They copy and pasted from the LSUE website and didn’t even bother to take the “LSUE” part out of the sentences describing their student housing
