Hhmm forgot about 2008 USC.. Shame they didn't get a shot at a national title because of one fluke loss early in the season

A little before my time but I just checked their box scores and I’m seeing only 2 close games. 18-7 @Boston College and 26-24 @Virginia Tech. The latter of which, the Canes led 26-10 in the 4th
Now do the same for LSU

And they couldn't throw the ball. (1700 yards)
"didn't" doesn't automatically mean "couldn't"
they were an option team that averaged almost as many total yards per game as 2019 LSU's offense did (LSU - 568 ypg ; NU - 556 ypg)
quote:
They couldn't stop the pass.
they only trailed once all year. and that was in the first quarter of a game.
their average score of a game was 52 - 13 (2019 LSU's was 48-26)
meaning literally every single team they faced was playing from behind and throwing the ball against backups. That tends to skew passing numbers.

Based off of what exactly? Your assumption is better than mine because…… why?

Heck, Miami had four NFL first-rounders on defense (Sapp, Lewis, Lang, Holmes) plus The Rock and Nebraska beat them in their own house, and that was in 94... in Frazier's first game back after being out 8 weeks with blood clots! The 95 squad was a wrecking machine. 95 Kansas State had the #1 scoring defense in the country that year and Nebraska scored 49 on them, which was more than 1/3 of the points they surrendered all year. That 95 Nebraska team didn't give up a single sack all season despite throwing the ball 228 times that year. Averaged 400 yards rushing per game and 156 passing.

it was a very controlled passing game. Nothing complicated. It was all field position and TOP.

let me know when one of the 2019 lsu players is being considered as the best nfl player ever at their position
can we maybe let a few of them play more than 2 seasons in the NFL first?

Not sure about that
LSU currently has 3 nfl starters from that o-line
I very well could be way off. I just remember Miami's oline being a significant strong point and was instrumental to Dorsey being serviceable. I also remember Burrow shining regardless of the pressure.

Nebraska players of 95 were smaller than your players today.

But you do realize how many were 1st rd picks coming out of college because they were studs in college, right?

We already know you think they beat everyone "with ease" but that's not true
They were played as tough as most generational teams. Very little

Because they threw for 1700 yards and how many men were in the box when they did that? They were considered a one-dimensional offense. I also said they were not a top 10 defense with their DBs. The truth is the 1971 Nebraska team with Heisman winner Johnny Rogers and Jerry Tagge was arguably right there with any Tom Osborne version. That 1971 game vs undefeated Oklahoma with Jack Mildren and Greg Pruitt was properly entitled, "Game of the Century." Two all-time great teams that happen to meet up in the same conference.

Both of y’all are just making assumptions

when you lead every single game all game long by an average of 3+ TD's at half and more than 5 TDs per game, you tend not to throw much.
choosing not to pass does not equal can't pass.

Their regular season schedule was minor league. And even Florida was a flawed team. Even when it came time to play Oklahoma they were a 30-point favorite.
In 1971 they had to travel to Norman and it was the #1 vs #2 team that lived up to the billing. Then they played an undefeated Alabama team also ranked #2 in the Orange Bowl and demolished them. They were a great team.

i'm not comparing them to '71.
i'm saying they CHOSE not to pass.
you saying they COULD NOT pass.

They beat everyone on their schedule that was made well in advance of the season. LSU played close games with Texas, Auburn, and Alabama in 2019. Not sure why you’re acting like they just steamrolled everyone they played either.
Are you comparing teams or résumé? If it’s the former then what I quoted you on is completely irrelevant.
Posted on 7/14/22 at 12:44 pm to lsupride87
Didn’t Alabama have a roster that had more future nfl players than anyone ever?
I think 2001 Miami had the most star power but they weren’t the best team…they were coached by a bum

Even with late scores in all three of those games, none of them ever had the ball with a chance to take the lead. The closest anyone got to beating 2019 LSU was an onside kick just to have a chance.
