They went with Paul McCartney the year after that because the NFL felt he was as safe as you can get. But at his pre super bowl press conference Paul McCartney was asked about the show the year before and Paul said “you won’t have to worry about a wardrobe malfunction this year….. because I’ll be naked”

Jack White would put on a helluva halftime show. Sturgill Simpson is another good one. See their SNL live performances as samples.
