Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays had an official attendance of 10,377, but the number of spectators actually at the stadium was much lower. According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, only 974 people showed up.

The teams played again Tuesday in front of an announced crowd of 10,069, but Sporting News showed the stadium wasn't close to full:

Did the 974 include players, managers and parking staff outside the stadium?

Skip: How did we ever draw 974?
Larry: It's a miracle.

Day game, on a weekday, when the temperature is barely above freezing... I wouldn't want to go either to see two bad teams.

This isn't unique to cold weather Chicago.
The Rangers had their lowest announced attendance since July 2010, on Monday night. 16K "announced" probably means closer to 10K.
It ain't even mid April yet.

The Rays must have been psyched out. Much bigger crowd than they get at home.

That’s really sad...... I mean really sad.......

Shocked to find out when I opened this thread we are talking about Chicago being the home team and not Tampa Bay

What's going on with the "large" group along the left field line? Why didn't they move to a better seat? Did the ushers not allow folks to move to a better seat when obviously there a plenty of available seats?

The game was moved from 7pm to 1pm the night before and it was snowing like crazy apparently up til an hour before the game started so weather conditions were obviously brutal. Cubs had a game at Wrigley scheduled at the same time and it got postponed

The photo might be from the beginning of the game. The ushers are typically pretty lenient about moving around when the crowd is light.

The DFW weather has been fickle but definitely cold after dark. Plus it's still a school night.
But if they still have that low an attendance once school lets out (the team will still stink), maybe that gets JD the boot.
