Such a strange era in CFB

Coach leaves, players go to portal, team declines bowl

On3: Iowa State declines bowl bid

College football doesn't feel the same. It needs regulations. The unrestricted free agency is ridiculous.

Never thought it’d get to the point where teams like ISU are opting out of bowls

That’s because it isn’t. The game we grew up loving is gone forever.

What a slap in the face of that fanbase that always supports them and shows up big time to bowl games

Yup. These players are mostly overpaid divas at this point.

College football is such an awful product these days

The only ones who still care are fans of programs who have billionaire donors bankrolling rosters

Bowl games have always been a problem holding back college football. Hopefully more schools decline them.

Part of ANY NIL deal should be playing in a bowl game.

It is so strange players don’t want to play in these games.

Free vacation where the bowl has player centered events every single night. Great food. Free gifts that are usually very nice. Opportunity to showcase and collect more film if you intend to portal. Cash per diem from the university to spend in whatever city you are in.

These players are just so spoiled now, it still isn’t enough. They want 10 grand to put a uniform on

This is actually great news because it affects the bottom dollar for TV people.

The more this happens then the more CHANGE that can occur for the better

Bowl season is so completely irrelevant now that I’m expecting this to become the norm soon

Well what do you expect when you're dumping hundreds of thousands of dollars on unproven 18 year olds?

Soon there won't be a "bowl eligibility", it'll just be who agrees to play the games.

Just wait until they start opting out of football altogether

Iowa state is projecting $25MM shortfall next year. They have no money to pay players

Bowl season for many teams is now viewed as a preseason game for the upcoming season. You get to see what you’re working with for the upcoming season.

Yup. This is annoying for fans, but long term this is how change happens.

Not with the portal now. Many of those players won't even be on the team anymore.

I love bowl season because you get a final few weeks of holiday football with some interesting team pairings.
