The real reason none of this matters is that she needed 6-7 steps to make a 55 yard field goal and NFL kickers have enough time for 2

Do you know that she "needed" 6 steps, or is that just what she's used to and they were just fricking around?

Y'all realize that if she decides to give it a shot, they aren't just going to throw her out there and wish her luck.

No, I don't and thats why "none of this matters" because until she shows she can kick a 50+ yarder with only 2-3 steps she or anyone else will not be an NFL kicker

Discussing the absurdity of her getting any shot at the NFL is being mad? May a swell shut down discussion boards if we can't discuss things.

ETA: I literally can kick a football father than here at this moment with the proper amount of steps. No NFL teams would even take a call from me. You really trying to defend this as anything other than PR?

It's not just you, it's like 3/4 of this board. And it's obviously not that absurd because she's apparently had contact from two different teams. A team isn't going to waste a roster spot on her if she isn't good enough. The backlash from signing someone to miss field goals and costing potential games would be much worse than the PR bump they'd get from signing her.

To your second point: I knew someone in high school who didn't play football after his senior year. He was a good kicker for a high schooler but never played in college. He basically just did intramural soccer and didn't do anything else football related. He started kicking footballs again after he graduated and still had quite a bit of power. He sent film to all 32 teams and guess what? He got a tryout with the Redskins. He didn't get signed but he still got a tryout. It happens more often than you think.

If we're just talking about being on a roster and kicking in a game, I'll buy. If we mean regular season, I'd sell.

I could totally see a team giving her a camp invite. You get a ton of good PR, you're not really taking a spot from anyone other than a camp body, and you figure she could probably knock down 40-45 yarders if she seriously trains for it for a year.

I really doubt she'd ever make a regular season roster, but just camp, yeah, I'll buy.

He was tiny and he was still an inch taller and 30 pounds heavier than Carli Lloyd.

I don’t think the “she’s too small” argument holds much weight, because it’s not as if kickers now aren’t tiny compared to NFL behemoths and none of them stand a chance anyway.

But let’s also not pretend she’s the same size as other kickers.

You don't think she could gain 20-30 lbs if she quit training for an endurance sport that has constant running and focused on weight training for the NFL?

And how many of those did the kicker recover or attempt to make a tackle?

Apparently kickers were involved on approximately 23 total tackles last season.

Wil Lutz led the way with 3.

It appears that only 3 of the kickers who registered tackles in 2018 also had a kick blocked.

She is getting that only because of who she is... which is absurd.

Do you honestly think there aren't thousands of more qualified kickers that will never get anywhere near the opportunity she's getting only because of who she is?

Your story has basically nothing in common with Lloyd's.

A female? No. She couldn’t put on 30 pounds without most of it being fat.

And she’s not skinny. Soccer players are not sickly-looking like endurance runners. They actually have muscle. So your premise is false to begin with.

Not one mentioned that if a ball is tipped and she happens to recover it that it’s a live play and she would then be tackled by grown arse men.

They also failed to note that as one of 11, if the opposing team recovers and is running it back, she is expected to try and tackle to prevent a score the other way.

Oh and how about blind side blocks that we see on these tipped FGs on kickers trying to make a play?

That's not even close to the best argument against.

The real argument is really simple. NFL kickers are physically elite (from a kicking standpont). The ability to kick with distance, accuracy, and a high trajectory with a short, quick approach is very rare.

She simply can't do that at that level. And, it makes sense. Asking a woman to be as physically gifted as elitely talented men is pretty much impossible.

Having said that, IF she could do that, a team would be dumb not to consider her simply because they don't think she's able to tackle someone.

The guys on ESPN are a mix of people whose desire for social justice is so great that they pretend to think she can do it and people who have no desire to put their job on the line for offering an opinion on that subject.

We need look no further than LSU's own Cole Tracy. Kid was absolutely money...but despite actually having PLAYED kicker for years, and despite being incredibly accurate, his leg is not considered strong enough for an NFL team to pick him up just yet. Despite having kicked a 54 yarder and set the LSU record last season...in a game...with a defensive rush...in pads...with pressure.

Of course this thing with Lloyd is just for show...and that's fine as far as I'm concerned. But, people getting caught up in it and pretending if it's more than that...that she legit could be one of the world's 32 best kickers are the ones muddying the water for reasonable people to find some enjoyment out of what is basically a silly little story.

Correct

If Lloyd gets a spot, you are literally doing it just because of her gender

Is this not exactly what most of her supporters preach against?

At 5’7, 140 pounds, she could be my new girlfriend (if I weren’t already married).

Cole Tracy will dominate in the XFL.

Garrett Hartley will find an NFL team before Carli Lloyd does.

I'm not denying that her status as a USWNT player has helped her. There's literally nothing wrong with her getting a tryout. People get tryouts all the time. But that won't be the reason why she gets a roster spot. She'll get one if she's good enough. That's it.

Ok. I don't think she'll ever be a kicker in a regular season game, but the tackling/size argument is terrible.

If you're depending on your kicker to make a tackle, you have problems that your kicker's size can't fix.

A kicker is on the field for 10-12 plays or so a game. Every FG and XP aren't designed to need a tackle. So, kickoffs are the only point you want tackling coming in at all, and zero coaches want any tackling responsibility on the kicker.

If we were talking about her going back to college and being a place kicker there, sure she could maybe do it. But we are talking about the most elite place kickers in the world. She has no business being in consideration, and I base that on nothing other than actually seeing her kick.
