"Famous person gets special treatment!" Run the headline now.

Only one of those "thousands of more qualified people" would actually miss out on the opportunity anyway.

Ok. I don't think she'll ever be a kicker in a regular season game, but the tackling/size argument is terrible.

If you're depending on your kicker to make a tackle, you have problems that your kicker's size can't fix.

A kicker is on the field for 10-12 plays or so a game. Every FG and XP aren't designed to need a tackle. So, kickoffs are the only point you want tackling coming in at all, and zero coaches want any tackling responsibility on the kicker.

This is all one bad take. She won't have the leg to kick 45 yard FGs with a 3 step run up and she can't kick it far enough for a touchback so what exactly is she going to do?

Isn’t that how it works everywhere?

As long as everyone is cool with acknowledging her getting looks from NFL teams has nothing to do with her actual talent and that this laughs in the face of gender equality, sure.

This is a bigger joke than when Mo Isom was kicking with LSU in practice.

The argument she can't tackle anyone is ridiculous. Nobody is taking a kicker because they can tackle or not, plus she is the one putting herself at risk.

If she can truly kick field goals, let her in, but I have serious doubts she's as good as professional athletes who have done this close to their whole lives.

What?

If she can't hit 45 yarders, she won't get a job because she can't hit 45 yarders. Not because she isn't a good enough tackler to offset missing 45 yarders.

You think NFL teams want kickers who may not be able to make field goals but can tackle really well to offset it?

Bottom line, her size and tackling has zilch to do with whether she's a viable NFL kicker. Her ability to hit FG's is the be all, end all. I doubt she can do that with enough distance to make it.

It took me 15 seconds to find out that she's 5'7", 140 lbs.

So she's already way bigger than Trindon Holliday was when he played.

She is a professional athlete who has played a sport where she has to kick a ball her entire life. A lot of people have mentioned Cole Tracy in here. He kicked a 54 yarder, yes. He also got several NFL tryouts. I don't see why it's so absurd to give her a tryout. She hit a 55 yard field goal and she hasn't really ever trained to do that. Who's to say that with a little training and work on technique she couldn't do that in 2 steps over a line? Every team brings in a few kickers for tryouts every year. I just don't get why it's so absurd to so many people on here that a woman might be good at something

No she’s not. But she is a kicker, so it wouldn’t even matter.

I don't think anyone is saying that. I can only speak for myself, but I have no issue with the idea of a woman kicking in the NFL. Having said that, it's not going to be a 37 year old soccer player that needed 8 steps with no pads and no rush to eek out a 55 yard kick.

The sexism you're hoping for just isn't present.

...because it's self evident to a lot of people that she isn't physically talented enough to kick at an NFL level.

So, it's clear that you aren't one of those people. Honestly, it's ignorance. You don't have enough respect for how good NFL kickers are.

The entire point of the OP is that she would be a physical liability because of her gender. Completely ignoring the fact that blocked kicks are extremely rare.

This is basically where I'm at.

I doubt she'll ever be an NFL kicker. I wouldn't be bothered by her getting a camp invite, though.

She's a legit athlete and could probably improve technique if she actually trained for it. If she just winds up being a training camp body...well, there are a lot of those and no one loses sleep. No one really thinks the 3rd string kicker in training camp is shutting down anyone else's opportunities.

Well, factually she would be.

Biological differences between the genders isn't sexist.

Lol. Ok. I'll take your word for it since you're an NFL talent evaluator

He wasn't saying she isn't a physical liability. Just that kickers are involved in tackles in less than 1% of the plays they participate in (which they already don't participate in that many plays)

No one is cutting a kicker because he isn't a good tackler

I don't think OP is saying that's the only reason her getting an NFL look is silly, but I could be wrong.

Directly from OP:
quote:

Not one mentioned that if a ball is tipped and she happens to recover it that it’s a live play and she would then be tackled by grown arse men. They also failed to note that as one of 11, if the opposing team recovers and is running it back, she is expected to try and tackle to prevent a score the other way. Oh and how about blind side blocks that we see on these tipped FGs on kickers trying to make a play? The 4 dolts just all “Buy” it because they know to say otherwise is considered sexist and would set off protests on social media. Freaking pathetic.

That's the only argument he made.

I just don't get the outrage. I'm not saying she'll make it. I just don't see why so many are upset at her going to a tryout. Teams have open tryouts every year. Literally you could show up, pay them a few hundred bucks and try out for the team.

I just find it funny that you choose to ignore all the duties a kicker has just because some rarely happen.

Also, she's not going to an open tryout. She's in direct contact with teams. No man with equal abilities as her would get that opportunity. Just call this PR stunt what it is.
