Bye weak was not the issue. People are just echoing what the talking heads are saying. Making excuses to why the top seeds lost.

The issue was the head coaches and how they prepared their teams during that time off.

They really need to move the quarterfinals on campus and move them up. Lanning 100% correct.

I support whatever keeps the rose and sugar bowls in their historic time slots. That’s too sacred to move.

we will almost assuredly have 16 teams next year

Pretty sure they need at least a full season to "fix the timing of the games". They may agree to an expansion, or adjustment of the schedule; but no way we see it before 2027. Or longer, depending on any contracts currently in place.

Contracts such as TV deals, deals with major bowl sites for specific games played...

OSU was a step slow in the first half

They were a step slow because they couldn't stop the DL all game. They just corrected it in the second half by keeping more people in to block.

I don't think the bye was the issue for OSU honestly

I agree and…we need to do away with the shitty neutral site games.

Yep. It's funny to watch this hivemind develop.

"College football needs a playoff to decide things on the field"

(4 team playoff decides things on field)

"No, we need to give more teams a chance"

(Playoff expands and upsets happen)

"No! Not like THAT! We need even more undeserving teams and shitty matchups to help the top seeds win!"

The problem is the discrepancy in layoff and the inconsistent schedule. We don’t need teams to have layups

OSU Miami was competitive too. OSU looked terrible in the first half but had the ball down 17-14 with 7 minutes left.

The bye is not the issue.

Do you think the first half didn’t factor into the defeat just because Ohio State eventually woke up?

Teams going back and forth and scoring more in the 2nd half is a lot more common than Ohio state dropping a big turd in the first half of a game.

How many other times this season was Ohio State behind at halftime much less scoring zero points?

Ohio State’s defense was used to playing with large leads by the 4th if not the 3rd, and its offense was used to playing without as much pressure in the second half of games allowing them to extend leads in the second half. Indiana was the only team that stopped them from extending a half time lead by putting a stop to Ohio State’s promising opening drive of the 2nd half with 2 sacks in a row forcing a short throw on 3rd and long and then driving the field against Ohio state to take the lead for good by the middle of the third quarter.

And I reject the premise that it's even a problem.

This week, we saw Ohio State's offense struggle against a strong defense again, Behren Morton play poorly against a strong defense again, and Kirby Smart mismanage a game. That's just football, and I don't buy the bye having anything to do with it. Hell, Ohio State and UGA still almost won.

I think the offensive line wasn't doing jack crap in the first half, and the adjustment wasn't made until the second half. Again, that's not a bye issue that's a personnel and protection issue. OSU didn't "wake up" they just went into more max protect and only had usually 3 guys running routs with extra guys protecting the QB.

Games used to overlap on different Networks in the 80s and on FAR earlier.

LSU's 1987 Sugar Bowl against Nebraska started at 2:30pm CST on January 1st....only 90 minutes before the Rose Bowl...back when CFB games didn't take 4 hours.

Most Everything was on 1 day, January 1st on competing Networks.... Now that ESPN has a postseason monopoly, they parse and spread it all out to make every Bowl its own 4-hour spectacle.

I looked at several Texas Tech games and felt their OL was not talented and those tall WRs were a problem in the Big 12 because of undersized DBs. That said, they’re not bad enough to lay a goose egg
