It’ll be interesting to see what direction HMS goes for that ride. Connor Zilisch or Corey Day?

I feel for Bowman. I think injuries have just taken their toll on him.

On the heels of the loss of Steve Waid, Rick Houston of Scene Vault Podcast has been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has spread to his liver.

I had some direct communication with Rick once on a non-racing story that I was working on for my former employer … it was on a local guy who was part of the prime Mission Control crew that landed Apollo 11; Rick is also an massive space geek in addition to his racing endeavors … and he’s just as nice a guy as he sounds on the podcast.

F*** cancer.

He also shared this today in a format I can’t link:

I had my first oncologist's appointment yesterday and the news was not good.

My cancer is in Stage 4. I have surgery Tuesday for a port to be installed and my first chemo treatment is set for a couple of weeks.

Don't be sad for me. I'm going Home, whether it's today, tomorrow or twenty years from now.

Of course, my thoughts are all over the place. It's hard to concentrate on any given topic for more than than a few minutes ... at best.

That said ... what of the digitized Scene archive? Time ran out on Steve and it may run out on me. All I know for sure right now is that when my time comes, this archive will not die with me.

I won't allow it.

The historic record in these papers is too important to be lost.

The extraordinary people who put their personal lives on hold to provide this kind of coverage were too talented to be forgotten.

One way or the other, this has to happen. At this point, I don't care how... just that it does.

Rick

Connor has had the worst season ever this year but he's really young and is good a toad courses.

I think I'd take him though.

So HMS will keep him another wasted year. He’s never really done great there.

The other worry is they bring in Rajah to check the DEI block. Conner is struggling. To me Day is the better choice at this point.

Basically Conner and Day have 1 year to race for the seat.

Here’s a fun comparison

Rajah actually can drive a little bit. He’s not Hendrick caliber right now, but I could see him as a spire guy.

My prediction is Zilisch gets the 48. Day runs one or two more years in the 17 and then goes to Spire or elsewhere in Cup until Larson retires.

Day is 20. He'll have barely turned 26 at the end of Larson's contract and I think Larson is gonna bounce at that point to go race all his other stuff and get more involved with High Limit.

I’m so over the exhibition races. I’d rather see points races instead.

This is a start, but I sure miss the good ol exciting days of speedweeks and watching 55+ cars fighting to make the 43 car field.

I've always thought Bowman was overrated. HMS has a tentancy of trying to strike gold like they did with Gordan. Young, good looking kid they hope to mold into a race car driver.

And, by the way Chase is right about his comments on the NASCAR broadcasts. NASCAR, for many years now thinks their core viewer is a casual and not a hard core fan. They've molded their broadcasts in this manner.

Truck race last night. Jamie Little was back in the booth and boy did it suck the life out of it. Flat out horrible. I muted it.

Race was a mostly snoozer to boot. Riggs ran away with it.

Jamie loves hyping up the “battle at the front” when it’s just Riggs passing Chandler for first. There was no battle at all.

Trucks have been abysmal on short tracks this far.

Should be in cup next year instead of Gragson. But I guess Gragson brings too much cash to the team.

Only 1 race caution and it really didn’t need thrown. But to be honest I enjoyed the race. Long stretches of racing and Kvapil finally won his first race. And Algier almost chased him down. JRM had top 4 spots, Chase Elliott came from very back to 4th.

I would love to see HMS bring Chastain to the 48. Will never happen but I’d love to see him in good equipment and how he’d do.
