That’s ashame. What he’s done for the WM baseball program is incredible. They have been consistently a top 5a program the last decade. WM is gonna realize that soon enough once the new coach doesn’t live up to expectations.

No one pushed him out. He chose to retire. His quote from the article:

quote:

“I went in and told Dan (Lane) and Kyle (Hill) that I plan on coaching 10 more years,” Simoneaux joked with his dry humor. “It was time. It got to the point to where I told myself a while back when I don’t fully embrace the commitment of keeping the facilities improved and the fundraising, it was time to go. I gave 44 years straight of grinding and coaching high school to college to back to high school. It got to the point during the season where West Monroe deserves better. They need a younger voice.”

Whoever said WM fans/parents pushed for someone younger is terrible at reading comprehension.

Principal's reaction:

quote:

“Goodness. Wade is a legend in baseball,” Lane said. “He has done things at West Monroe that have never been done. He’s taken us to a new level. West Monroe will move forward, and we don’t have any plans at this time to take those next steps. We just want to congratulate Wade and wish him the best. He had a remarkable run.”

Weather is shaping up to make these next few days tough on scheduling games.

The softball coach would do well making the change over to the smaller rock.

I know all the natural grass fields are exploring turf fields nearby as alternate sites.

As a program that is heading to New Orleans, the three day series are already a huge financial commitment, requiring transport and hotels for an extra day. I hope they can get it done. I know they will do everything they can, cant control the weather. And it was my impression they have all the series as Th, Fr, Sat to try to create more time to make arrangements, so doing all they can.

BM plays at KR, but I am sure they can get Tulane or UNO. Nord also has two hs sized fields that have turf.

Jesuit has turf but they play JC who doesn’t.

One of the NORD venues is really nice.

Chalmette and Mandeville fields very nice too

So this is my question… we had a series at Airline a decade ago now and got rained out on Friday night after I drove up… we then lost two on Saturday I think that started at 11 AM and the second game was done around 4 PM so I got home that night. Is there a rule that they can’t have a triple header?

I have no idea. That seems a touch excessive, but thank goodness for cooler temps this weekend. Last Saturday was warm and muggy here.

If you have three games of playoff baseball you better have an extra catcher. The stress on thise guys gets to most of them even in double headers.

Catholic and HC will start their series tonight instead of tomorrow. I think Nola should have made the same call, out of an abundance of caution.

Both Rooney and Harahan are natural surfaces. John Ryan is completely turf, outfield included, but Curtis is always reluctant to move from Harahan. Miley is turf infield but grass outfield - St Martin's plays there on Friday but I believe it's otherwise open. Nord should have options.

Hopefully the weather doesn't make it to the Southshore.

definatley need an extra catcher.....as well as hoping that you don't burn one of your dudes on the mound bc of the rain stop and starts.

this is something I haven’t thought about is how to plan pitching around potential stoppages. You may see some aces get shortened outings if rain comes after games begin.

it has to work for the umpires. as the playoffs progress, the less choices you have for the certain associations available to you. so a lot of these series will have umpires doing some extended traveling. i would assume they would have to coordinate those days off with their normal employer so last minute changes could be tough on some of them.

There are less series, but there are also individual games being played this weekend. Those schools need guys to cover those games as well. IMO It's a tough sell to ask guys to travel long distances Thursday without a hotel and drive back Saturday. Of course, I am sure they are being paid travel. Now, if the school is putting them in hotel, then its not different than college crews working a three game series.

Maybe after Evie West graduates in two years.

Looking for West Monroe to win state in softball this weekend.

That’s because he told his players to quit going to see Bill Pearson for hitting. Seems like that was a mistake.
