So somehow the guy who was replaced after 2 races, will replace a guy who replaced his replacement...

Welcome to RedBull world

BBC Sports seems to be saying it. Broken hand/wrist from boxing.

I just posted a few weeks back that after that slew of replacement drivers years ago (Sainz surgery, window licker bike wreck, Rojain wreck, etc...) we hadn't had any drivers miss a race.

Guess I jinxed it

That sounds like at least 6 weeks of Yuki

I think Danny Ric missed 5 races with a broken bone in his wrist. He broke his by crashing the car on race week. I guess for Isaac it depends on when the injury actually happened, could have happened 3 weeks ago already.

Lil' Frenchie got called a short cry-baby in Ibiza and decided to meet his accuser at Sonic. Failed to knuckle-check the other guy.

Interesting RB put Lawson in the car instead of Yuki who had dozens of races with the team already.

Yeah, somewhat interesting.
Wish Lawson the best after his 2 race career last time, and hope Yuki has a solid outing too.
They all have a hard enough time living in the turbulence of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Red Bull seats as it is.

Yuki has more experience in the main Redbull team but has very little experience in these new cars. Liam has had a solid season so far and could potentially help Redbull more.

Will be interesting to see how his performances compare to his Racing Bulls races.

Lawson is the future, yukis there for situations like this.

Yuki had his chance, no need holding back your potential talent pool.

May also be what drivers are available for the ride.

So for predictions this week, we just ignoring the team assigned to the driver?

Yes, I'm very intrigued about this. Lawson has been vibing with his VCARB car and team, and now he's got a new car and team to deal with and it's disrupting his rhythm. The new Red Bull car is less freaky to the #2 driver than the previous car, so maybe he'll be comfortable enough, but the feel may be different enough that one practice session isn't going to be enough to get him comfortable with the car. He'll be pissed if he struggles.

From the team perspective they want to maximize team points so they figure this is better than putting a rusty driver in the car.

I think other teams should be very pissed that Red Bull is not treating the two teams separately. It's clear they are one team and the other teams should be pushing back on an arrangement like this. IMO.

Edit: I'm trying to remember if any front-running team has recalled a loaned-out driver to the main team on a temporary basis. For example, if one of the Ferrari drivers got injured, would (or could) Ferrari put Ollie Bearman in that seat until the injured driver got back? I'm sure it's stipulated in the contract between the teams when a driver is loaned out. I'm trying to remember if it has happened in the past.

Yes, ignore the team color and logo, it's all about the driver name.

That being said, I will update my code to show Lawson with Red Bull and Yuki with VCARB for this race and any future race if Hadjar is out for a while.

George for Lewis a few years ago. Season was really done though.

Has been a while since that has been needed due to a driver being lost.

This means that after four years in Formula 1, Liam Lawson will STILL not have raced a full season with one team.

2023: 5 races as injury replacement for Ricciardo
2024: 6 races as replacement for Ricciardo
2025: 2 races for Red Bull before being dropped
2026: replaces Hadjar

The people who made those decisions for Lawson and Yuki are all gone and remember Laurent Mekies was at Racing Bulls when Lawson came back to Racing Bulls. He seems to have more faith in Lawson than Yuki. He has stated in interviews that he had to do a lot of mental work, understandably, with Lawson to get him back in the right frame of mind
