It was mentioned Petronas/Merc had the same issues 6-8 years ago when the first fuel changes happened.

Briefly saw some article saying that there are a few struggling with getting their fuel approved.

Looks like Ferrari have figured out a way to create downforce from the exhaust. Not quite a blown diffuser but close. They waited til the last day of testing to show it off.

Nice, so to be clear we’re just looking at that half-plate covering the bottom of the exhaust pipe?

That's what I was wondering.

That’s what I was looking at ha. I found a picture that shows what it looked like last week for comparison.

“The new aerodynamic element is likely aimed at delivering two key benefits for car performance. It could help make use of diverting exhaust gases to help with the way they interact with the rear wing air flow.”

“Furthermore, it could be acting as an extension of the diffuser airflow, aimed to help improve performance here and deliver greater downforce.”

If (and this is a big if), Ferrari start winning some races, I can't wait to see Hamilton flip-flop and say "these cars are great."

A lot of people appear to be commenting that Merc will have an advantage if this happens. That is true. But also none of their first half engines can be used in the second half of the season.

This has already started.
“The car's performance so far is truly exciting me. Working with next-generation cars is a very different experience; we're trying to solve everything from scratch and in real time.”

“Last year, I had to race with a car with a foundation I took over from someone else. But this year's car is a model that I've personally developed at the simulator for the last 8-10 months. It literally has my DNA in it, so I feel much more attached to this car.”

Was just reading an Athletic article about that. They said they tried changing the start procedure giving the drivers an extra 5s on the grid to rev up and spool the turbo and that it worked well today.

Those must be some windmill-sized turbos.

Even a moderately sized turbo is incredibly hard to spool with no load on the engine. You can only play so many tricks with timing to make them pop and bang their way to getting some compressor RPMs. And you have to do all that with 1.6L.

We used to run 60 degrees of timing in small blocks to spool up twin 88s and that was with a load from the torque converter. It wasn't uncommon to have an almost 6L engine take 10 seconds to build any boost.

Oh how about that? Ok. Good to know. Makes the removal of the MGU-H make even less sense. Again.

If Nigel Mansell couldn't squeeze his arse into a car Kim K doesn't have a shot.

I think people are overreacting to the engine/power issues and it will be reasonable after the 3rd race. The power management is a bit of a limp dick method to force competitive racing.

The drivers reactions about it being a battery monitoring competition vs who can take the corners the best kinda sucks

I mean, the car is the main thing. Of course Lewis will be positive if it works out. This is all drivers.

Ferrari pulling another trick out of their bag today. This rear wing could actually create lift on the straights instead of just lessening downforce.

“It is understood that the Ferrari design is a test item and is being run in Bahrain as part of an evaluation study – so it is something that may or may not be carried into the season.”

Reported to be worth 8-10kph on the straights
