That’s insane looking to see it flip over like that.
I always thought that some of the more extreme DRS from last year looked like they could be doing more than just reducing drag but this is on a whole other level.

If it gives lift and because straight line speeds are so fast wouldn’t that make braking dangerous as front is taking brunt of force and rear won’t have as good of contact when brakes applied? Could see some spins if car not perfectly centered possibly?

Amateur aerodynamicist here but I would think the wing stops generating lift as soon as the brakes are applied. The amount of lift may not be significant enough to play that much into braking.

I was kind of thinking the opposite. I was like, "why is it flipping 270 degrees instead of 90?" As soon as it starts the flip at the touch of the brake, it provides a "boost" of downforce to the back wheels while the wing is vertical.
Maybe i don't know. Like FT, I'm just an armchair aerodynamicist.

According to Juan Pablo Montoya they are hiding 4-5 seconds worth of pace.

I know when I seek engineering advice, JPM is always my first go-to.

Imax and Apple TV are bringing the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship live to select big screens across the U.S. for the first time.
Five of the most iconic Grands Prix in F1 — Miami, Monaco, Silverstone, Monza, and Austin — will be available across at least 50 Imax locations, amplifying the inaugural season of Apple TV as F1’s official U.S. broadcaster. The tech giant cliched a five-year rights deal in October as the racing circuit grows in popularity in the U.S. with stops in Las Vegas, Miami and Austin.
The Miami Grand Prix is first up May 3 followed by Monaco (June 7), British Grand Prix (Silverstone, July 5), Italian Grand Prix (Monza, September 6), and United States Grand Prix (Austin, October 25).

i'd believe him if the engine wasn't constantly shitting itself.

Seems like a whole lot of movement that can lead to it breaking easily... but I don't know

So far I’m happy with Apple TV
I was skeptical, mostly because of how good ESPN did, big they have done great so far

I really hope they’re not depressingly slow.
Posted on 2/19/26 at 9:47 am to s14suspense
Isn’t there a rule about teams not being allowed to participate if they are too slow?
Posted on 2/19/26 at 9:48 am to MississippiLebowski
107%, I think.
quote:
During the first phase of qualifying, if the circuit is dry, any driver who is eliminated in the first qualifying session and fails to set a lap within 107% of the fastest time in that session will not be allowed to start the race without permission from the race stewards. For example, if the fastest Q1 lap time was 100 seconds, each driver who is eliminated in the session must complete at least one lap within 107 seconds to guarantee a race start. The 107% rule was introduced for the 1996 season and remained in force until 2002. It was reintroduced for the 2011 season with minor modifications due to the knock-out qualifying format.

Key phrase. Too much money to not let them race.
The 107% rule was put in place to stop shitty owners and even shittier drivers.
