This NBC broadcast is just gawd awful.
Who the frick thought having a Brit (or Aussie) as the play by play of NASCAR was a good idea?
Latarte talks so fast he sounds like one of those radio legal disclaimer things.
Burton is tolerable sometimes.
And, whoever runs the scoring pylon is legit autistic. The damn thing bounces around so much you can't keep up with drivers are. And, do we really need a lap by lap run down of where the playoff drivers are scored?
The Prime situation this summer was bad, but it gets me that NASCAR can't see how easy the solution for TV really is. Here's what they should do:
1) Full Season on NBC/USA for over the air broadcast and full season on Prime for streaming.
2) Only time the races can be put on USA will be if there is a direct conflict with an existing sports event NBC has rights to. Think PGA Tour Golf in March and the U.S. Open in June. Those races can be on USA.
3) NASCAR does the production itself, NBC/USA/Prime just airs it. Similar to how ESPN simply airs the Sky Sports broadcast for F1, they don't actually produce the broadcast at all.
Dump FOX, as they have long since stopped caring about NASCAR and largely phone it in. Dump TNT as they are about bankrupt anyway and are shedding sports properties, including losing the NBA this year.
NASCAR always has the challenge with the fact that their fan base is the oldest and most blue collar in terms of professional sports. Many of these people, as evidence this year, simply will not stream and will only watch if it's over the air and/or cable. Provide that for them. But then also provide streaming for the younger fans and younger generations as a whole.
The biggest thing is you get both. The younger fans and cord cutters can stream on Prime. The older fans can watch on NBC/USA. It would be a NASCAR production so it's the same broadcast for the most part anyway.
NASCAR already does the production in house for the races on Prime and TNT. So it really wouldn't be a big change.
For Xfinity (O'Reilly Auto Parts in 2026) and Trucks, put all of those races on CW over the air and again give Prime the rights for streaming. Cut FOX out completely.
Do all this, you get fans back. You attract some newer fans (and keep them) while still mostly keeping the older fans. And you bring in consistency. No having to have 5 or 6 different services to watch NASCAR races. The NFL can get away with that, NASCAR can't.

Totally agree. You have 40 drivers and they list top 5 and then pop others up 5 at a time with that god awful chase tracker.
And Letart hangs his words and I absolutely hate it. The Brit is awful and tries too hard. Burton sounds too much like Letart.
And too many windows plus the side window its horrible.

All of your ideas are great but Nascar sold their soul.
The reason none of the broadcasters are any good is because each only has a small slice of the pie. Why would they invest when Nascar split them up to make a few more bucks. When one network had all races it was great.
And yes, they need to get back to broadcast or cable. That older demo isn’t that old meaning even in their 60’s they have another 20+ years of viewing. And they have disposable income way more than younger demo. But Nascar has been chasing them off for 20 years already and the Prime experiment was final straw for many. They found other things to do during races for first time ever and realized they didn’t need Nascar. And they aren’t coming back.

I don’t have an issue with Diffey. Maybe it’s because he used to do IndyCar.

Honestly I can’t stand Letarte. He just never shuts up… ever.

Burton is ok until he gets excited and his voice starts getting higher and higher. It was worse when Dale Jr was there too. Both of them would go into their “super excited high pitched” voice way too easily and then have a race to see who could annoy all dogs within earshot.

Bob Pockrass has some great tweets on the payouts to teams. Will be interesting to see how NASCAR settles or allows this to go to trial.

How hard are non-franchise teams getting fricked?

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I would be fine with seeing Hamlin win the championship today. He deserves it. Denny’s father is also in failing health and it would be cool for him to be able to see Denny finally win it.

Other than restarts, this race is boring.

This has been a good race... mainly because Goodyear brought a wild tire here
NGL, I hate storylines in sports... however, I will admit that for this one race... this one time... im cheering for Denny

Holy cow, is this the racing Gods trying to conspire against Denny one last time?

Wait, what?!
It has been completely dominated by Hamlin. There’s not really any passing for the lead other than restarts. The close racing lasts a lap and then they’re strung out.

Larson with 2 tires, Denny with 4!!!
frickin hell boys

Hamlin's crew just fricked him

Interesting race ending…. Not a legitimate way to crown a champion.

I don't disagree, but what im saying is the chaos of these crazy arse tires has caused some wild situations... look at Briscoe and Larson
BTW, one hell of a gritty drive by Briscoe
