Nascar Talladega viewers:
2,556,000 this year on NBC
3,127,000 last year
-571,000 net loss year over year
18.3% loss
Nascar really messed up going Prime in summer. So many fans never came back. New fans not staying.

It's not just the Prime deal, it is the whole racing package. The cars don't have enough power, are not going insanely fast like they used to, the drivers are all sterile and boring and the racing sucks with this generation of car.
And as usual instead of doing what needs to be done, NASCAR keeps doubling down on stupid at every turn. More road courses, more screwed up schedules, and only bringing back the HP for smaller tracks next year.

USGP going on had a lot to do with it.

Oh I completely agree about the car. They’ve been shedding fans for years but the Prime deal along with existing problems just made it worse.
And the HP increase. Its not even a different sized engine. Its the exact same engine and they are just making the spacer a bit bigger. So no one will be able to get away or pass.
They will have no fans left before they wake up. To add the booths are flat horrible at calling races. For all carriers too. Good people just bad at announcing.

I like the diverse schedule. But isn’t the saying “jack of all trades, master of none?”
That describes this car. It can put on good shows occasionally. Doesn’t always do it.

Road courses good
Street circuits/rovals bad

I disagree on street courses. Every major series runs them. One a year is fine.
The roval should go. Put that back on the oval and replace it with an actual road course.

The Roval isnt bad per se, it's just that the oval is better. Charlotte oval needs 2, maybe 3 with the all-star race. The all star race at Dover is going to be pretty lame. Maybe Rockingham, but not Dover.

Agree to disagree.
The only positive about street circuits is that drivers can't go eight wide through a corner, because there isn't room for them to go off the course.

Charlotte is one of a few tracks that deserve two dates.
Street courses are just a different type of challenge. They’re unforgiving. Chicago had plenty of passing opportunities.
San Diego looks a lot like a street track you’d see in Australia. There’s a mix of Adelaide, Gold Coast, and Newcastle in it. Lap time is gonna be important. I only see 3-4 passing opportunities. Chicago had at least 5.

Neat track. I wish they would have used the runway. Like Burke Lakefront.

Typical street circuit. Four 90 degree corners.

I wish they’d do a street circuit in Nola and use the Lakefront Airport.

Race last night was good. Xfinity puts on a much better show.
Taylor Gray won. And if you recall this same track in spring Smith wrecked Taylor in the last corner on purpose. TG went and talked to SS but never hit him, kept his cool but let him know it was chickenshit. Dale Jr said afterwards to the effect thats not how he wants his drivers to win.
Dale Jr talked to TG and TG said he wasn’t going to pay SS back in a future race as that would cost the team and Dale Jr team crew to work extra to fix it and cost them money. Very mature for someone so young.
Last night they had another GWC restart and SS lined up behind Gray who was leader on inside. And this time he never wrecked Gray and TG won the race. Smith missed the final 4 where wrecking Gray would have got him in. Ironically had Gray won that race in spring he woulda been in the playoffs but barely missed.
Gray just turned 19 so he handled everything better than I would have in the spring. And SS got karma in the end because I gotta think had he wrecked Gray again, Dale Jr woulda fired him. So it looks like he learned.
Then sam Mayer wrecked Burton on the cool down lap and admitted it. He said other drivers shouldn’t race playoff drivers hard. frick him this is racing and they have as much right. Earlier in race Mayer spun Burton on purpose so during later part of race Burton raced Mayer hard and passed him. Mayer missed finals by 4 points. Karma again. Burton had every right and had Mayer not spun him Burton likely doesn't race him hard later. Mayer missed finals by 4 points
They need to get rid of the chase. Too much focus and then TV makes it the sole focus point.

Mayer took a huge step forward this year both on and off the track. And last night was a huge step back to being the arse hat he’s always been. Won’t make it to cup with that attitude.

That clip does not get him any sympathy from me.

This NBC broadcast is just gawd awful.
Who the frick thought having a Brit (or Aussie) as the play by play of NASCAR was a good idea?
Latarte talks so fast he sounds like one of those radio legal disclaimer things.
Burton is tolerable sometimes.
And, whoever runs the scoring pylon is legit autistic. The damn thing bounces around so much you can't keep up with drivers are. And, do we really need a lap by lap run down of where the playoff drivers are scored?
