The France family definitely does not want numbers to become public.
Yeah. Kenny made a great point.
This is just a hobby for MJ. If he loses, he loses a hobby. Yeah, he would ose some money, but as a known gambler, MJ is use to it. He can sell that building he just had built and recoup a little money. But he makes so much from Nike each year, he is willing to gamble on it. Plus, he is so competitive that he will be willing to go down with the ship.
But If NASCAR loses, they lose everything. They have nothing else. This isn’t a hobby for them. It’s a much greater risk than reward for them.
In his video, he mentioned how MJ makes like $35 to $40 million a year which is why he willing to gamble on it. But Kenny was wrong on the figure

Plus, if he loses, MJ can trash NASCAR endlessly, soiling their image, as if it isn't soiled enough.

In 1979 the Daytona 500 got 15.14 million viewers. In 2023 same race got 8.173 million viewers.
This is a somewhat unfair comparison.
In 1979, there was a massive winter storm that socked in a large section of the country. Combined with that most people still only had THREE channels to watch and yes, it would drive viewership up a lot.
I do not disagree with your general point and I do agree their viewership is in decline. I used to watch NASCAR every chance I could get. I used to watch both days of qualifying if I could (remember those days?! Remember Bristol and Richmond sell outs 6 months in advance, even with seats completely around RIR? Remember the Grandstands off Turn 2 at Daytona?). Now maybe I'll watch the highlights on YouTube. Maybe. And even then I fast forward through a lot.
NASCAR has been dying for over a decade (at least) and the France family don't seem to have any urgency to really get stem the bleeding.

.
USANetwork got a 0.80 rating and 1.544 million viewers for Sunday's Bank of America Roval 400 at Charlotte.
Although it was on NBC, the 2024 Roval had 2.4 million average viewers. So we lost about a million viewers, which is around a 37% decrease
Continues to crater. Not many fans left to lose

Only people watching are family and people who left the TV on after the Harry Potter marathon.

I firmly believe NASCAR leadership will continue to run it's series into the ground until they can find a suitable buyer for it. The France's will devalue it enough to make it a plausible purchase but at the same time still walk away with 100's of millions of dollars.
They already shopped around selling the organization a few years ago, but they were basically laughed out of every room they went into trying to sell it. The price was sky high and the product was/is shite.
Right now, IMO, they have manipulated the supply chain and sponsorship chain enough that they have been funneling millions of dollars to themselves behind the scenes. They will keep doing what they doing until they kill NASCAR outright and all the while squeezing every red cent they can out of the sport.
Once it becomes evident that they can no longer milk anymore cash out of the carcass of NASCAR, is when they will sell it a price that is agreeable to buyers. Lord help whomever does buy it, because if they actually want to save it, they will have a huge uphill battle to contend with.

NASCAR will have to sell the tracks, too.

For the first time ever, I’m liking what I’m hearing from Steve O’Donnell:

Wonder if the courts mandate that they sell the tracks and grant permanent charters.

Ty Dillon either had a problem or decided to pit and there was a lack of communication somewhere as he tried to come down pit road and Byron, who was the leader, runs right into the back of him.

Not only lacks talent but also a dumbass. Never signaled out the window and then went up to the middle lane before slamming on the brakes.

Yep I’ve never been a fan of his. Byron was nice about it too. I’m no Hamlin fan either but after seeing how emotional he was, I’m glad he won. He has come so close so many times to winning it all and never gets there. I don’t see him doing it this year either but we shall see!
Random though but I like seeing fairly new blood like Briscoe do so well in the playoffs.

Denny has adapted well to the current car. A lot of older guys that are used to driving off the right rear can't get the hang of it.

I think that serious wreck Kyle had a few years back has him taking the more cautious route to retirement.
Before that he DNGAF he would push everything to the limit.
