I think everyone knows, including the people making fun of him, that Liam would be qualifying similar to Yuki if he was still at VCARB. It's not like he forgot how to drive, he just hasn't been able to adjust to the Red Bull, and certainly Perez supporters are happy to see that.

But Yuki is making it clear he is not scared of the Red Bull.

espn.com/f1/story/_/id/44355380/yuki-tsunoda-100-ready-replace-liam-lawson-red-bull-make-move

quote:

Asked if he would be happy to take on the challenge of driving the Red Bull, Tsunoda said: "Yeah, why not. Always."

When a follow up question suggested a switch in Japan, he added: "In Japan? Yeah, 100%. I mean, the car is faster."

After answering the question, Tsunoda was whisked away by a Racing Bulls PR person.

What do the Yuki fans want see? Would you rather see him get called up to Redbull now and drive a difficult car that doesn’t have the overall pace, or would you rather him have a solid year driving for racing bulls and then potentially find a new team in the offseason.

This popped up on my Facebook algorithm earlier and it’s very relevant today. Albon talking about Max and the car being suited to Max’s unique driving style.

It's faster than his RB, barely, with Max driving it.

A driver has to be confident, but the likelihood of Sushi lapping faster in the Red Bull than his current ride is fairly remote in my opinion.

That whole interview is worth a listen.

#Piastri : in Q2 the machine was not working, in Q3 the machine came alive
#Russell : very messy session, nothing was working, I was about to go out in Q1 and then everything went together on the last lap
#Verstappen : inconsistent grip, very difficult to take references
#Hamilton : we changed a few small things, nothing big, but the car became very difficult to drive, maybe the wind became more gusty and the car became more difficult
etc etc there is not one happy... The #F1 has become incredibly difficult, with windows for everyone so narrow that all it takes is 1 degree of track, 1 gust of wind, a click of the wing and the tires behave differently, the car becomes easy or difficult, becomes alive or nothing works... it is truly a nightmare, it was already like this in the last seasons but it is increasingly so, session after session. In my opinion, a very personal opinion, technically it is the most difficult F1 ever.

I always go back to this interview with albon when it comes to the 2nd seat and max’s driving style. As the year goes, it might actually get worse for Lawson.

Is anyone else going to watch the race live? It's only midnight for me.

I for one love the high tire deg at this track. I much prefer races that need at least two pit stops.

Last year at China:

P1 Max - medium > hard > hard strategy, pitted on Lap 13 and during safety car on Lap 23
P2 Lando - medium > hard strategy, pitted on Lap 22 during the initial VSC
P3 Checo - same as Max
P4 Sharl - same as Lando
P5 Carlos - medium > hard strategy, pitted on Lap 17

P7 Fernando - medium > hard > soft > medium strategy, a three stopper!

P9 Lewis - soft > medium > hard strategy, odd decision to start on softs!

Lewis was one of four cars to start the race with a soft tyre, all of whom had pitted by Lap 12. Kevin Magnussen was the only driver to start on a hard tyre.

quote:

This year, everyone has saved both of their hard tyre sets for the race, and the smart money is on those being used. medium > hard > hard looks like a strong favourite for the preferred strategy, with pit windows between Laps 14-20 and 32-38.

There is some talk there could be some three stoppers due to the deg. Especially if a team is a bit off on their setup.

As important as free air is, I'm curious if it wouldn't be wise for a team out of the top ten to pit early to get the benefits of running free.

Anyway, might see some interesting strat this race as running in dirty air wrecks the tires as we saw in the sprint.

May try to stay up. Made it through the sprint but was pretty tired.

Piastri up top and Doohan at the rear.
Should be fun.
If I stay up,there will be a red flag.
So I'll watch it when I wake up tomorrow

Chinese national anthem sounds like it should be part of the soundtrack for the movie City Slickers 2

At the moment it looks like Albon, Stroll, and Bearman are going for one-stoppers.

Hmm, on mediums, Albon pitted at the end of lap 20. Not sure he can go 36 laps on one set of hards.

How is Charl with a broken front wing much less so much faster than Lewis? I am watching the free Spanish broadcast on ESPN and have no idea what the commentators are saying.
