With just one practice session for the weekend, and sprint qualy coming up next, everyone spent most of FP1 on one set of medium tires trying to figure out how long they last. There were complaints of the front left wearing out fast.
Near the end of FP1 and most drivers are out on softs to get a hot lap in.

The results of the only practice session of the weekend.
Lando is light years ahead of everyone.
Max aborted his only soft tire hot lap attempt, so I'm not sure where he really is.
You can see four rookies struggling at the bottom of the chart. Liam has never raced here so he's a rookie in that sense. But he still has more experience than the true rookies and this is not a good look.

No worries. I saw your post and misread it and thought you were locking at 10:30. It was my fault.

I was staying up to watch sprint qualy but I conked out, then woke up in the middle of the night and watched the replay. Wow, some interesting results!
1 Lewis Hamilton Ferrari 1:30.849
2 Max Verstappen Red Bull Racing +0.018
3 Oscar Piastri McLaren +0.080
4 Charles Leclerc Ferrari +0.208
5 George Russell Mercedes +0.320
6 Lando Norris McLaren +0.544
7 Andrea Kimi Antonelli Mercedes +0.889
8 Yuki Tsunoda Racing Bulls +0.924
9 Alexander Albon Williams +1.003
10 Lance Stroll Aston Martin +1.133
11 Fernando Alonso Aston Martin 1:31.815
12 Oliver Bearman Haas 1:31.978
13 Carlos Sainz Williams 1:32.325
14 Gabriel Bortoleto Sauber 1:32.564
15 Isack Hadjar Racing Bulls no time
16 Jack Doohan Alpine 1:32.575
17 Pierre Gasly Alpine 1:32.640
18 Esteban Ocon Haas F1 Team 1:32.651
19 Nico Hulkenberg Sauber 1:32.675
20 Liam Lawson Red Bull Racing 1:32.729
First, Lawson is dead last. Embarrassing. Somewhere in the world Perez is smiling and feeling somewhat validated, that maybe this car is undrivable for anyone but Max.
Hulk didn't make it out of SQ1, but his rookie teammate did. Also Ocon is beaten by his rookie teammate. Looks like Alpine is the slowest team in China.
Looks like Albon is the team leader at Williams. Yuki with another strong qualy, continuing to make Red Bull's choice look questionable.
Lando abandoned his last hot lap, which was going well, when he had a slide in that last hairpin. Ferrari is looking stronger than Mercedes. Max squeezing every bit out of the Red Bull, making Liam look even worse. Talk about humble pie -- we're probably not going to see that on-track arrogance that Liam showed last year.
Ham on pole! A vintage Lewis vs Max battle!

It is crazy with all the rookies, Hamilton in a Ferrari, McLaren....
Max is kind of an after thought right now.

I have Youtube TV and I have them set to record. It was a nice surprise to wake up this morning to the sprint qualifying.

Looks like sprint is at 10pm central. Actually pretty awesome on a Friday night.

Yeah, totally doable. Now, the 2:00 am race, nah. That's going to be a DVR watch for me.

believe yuki would be in red bull right now if up to helmut. think christian ultimately made the call to promote liam. dude will be out by summer break at this rate, and they'll have no choice but to finaly promote yuki.

I completely forgot to make my picks this week.
WTA: will it use my picks from last week or am I going to have a DNS?

If you saved a pick last week it will reuse it.

Your currently saved list will be used for every race until you update it, so you're good!
This is the failsafe I thought of very early when I was envisioning a game where you had to update your guess for every race. I knew people would sometimes forget or be too busy to enter a new list.
With the surprising results of sprint qualy, it looks like it's still hard to predict the order of teams and teammates. Which is great!

I never quite understood the promotion of Lawson over Yuki, Yuki was beating him at Toro Rosso, had beaten Danny Ricc too.
Is it perhaps they see more potential and upside in Lawson? If that's the case they should probably give him a bit to bed in before talking giving him the book after one race. Red Bull is sort of a shite show.
