Ferrari extends Fred Vasseur’s contract for multiple years.

Shouldn't be a surprise but...

Anyways. Race week.
The Hungaroring typically gives us better racing than it should, unlike the massively overrated track we saw this past weekend. Piastri has an axe to grind, and I expect a dominant weekend from him.

“To stay” makes it sound like he had an option.

Predictions for the Hungarian GP will be locked tonight!
Here is last year's Hungary qualy, and this year's Monaco qualy (another max downforce track, though they are very different).

formula1.com/en/results/2025/races/1261/monaco/qualifying
It's so competitive right now, it's gonna be super hard to predict the lower six teams. And as sorantable mentions, the racing here is surprisingly decent. IIRC, last year there were a lot of strategy errors that pissed off numerous drivers.

A lot of reports that Aston Martin is leaving F1.
Stroll owns the F1 team so this appears to just be Aston Martin going private and taking some money with them. Their share being worth 160MM or so.
Seems Stroll stays with part ownership of Aston Martin as well.

That was a great interview with him.

Hungarian GP predictions are now locked! Good luck!
You can view everyone's predictions here:

Savor this weekend, because the next three weekends are going to be barren.

Alonso sitting out FP1, Drugovich will drive instead. This was unscheduled.
Alonso has a lingering muscular back injury. Sounds like they are playing it session-by-session. If he misses FP2, I guess he could still resume driving on Saturday if he got better overnight. But there's the possibility he'll miss the whole weekend.

How will that work with our predictions if he doesn’t race this weekend?
Watching FP1 and there is no commentary on the English broadcast on ESPN, Spanish broadcast has commentary.

There are 8 teams / 16 cars on the grid that would have moved heaven and earth to sign him if he called one of them up and said "frick it, make it happen".
It's smart for him to stay put and see who nails the new regs in year 1 though.

Second week in a row they’ve had audio issues like that.
Lando fastest in FP1, barely

You can see what happens by looking at the Spanish GP. Stroll qualified for the race but on Saturday night they announced that he would not race:
dg42.net/TDF1/race-scorecard.php?name=auisssa&race=9
If a predicted driver doesn't race, you get zero points. Everyone gets zero points so everyone is more-or-less affected equally. Except that the higher you predicted the driver, the more total potential points you have lost. You ranked Alonso the highest at P7. Since there is a 1.4x weight factor for P7-P10, you would give up a potential total of 28 points compared to someone who predicts Alonso P16-P20, where they only lose a potential total of 20 points. When you look at our race scoring, 8 points is a lot and can drop you down the order quite a bit.
Alonso is driving in FP2 so he's probably OK. But you never know, the session might aggravate his injury and he may decide to withdraw and give Drugovich is first F1 opportunity!

Last year's Hungary qualy:
P7 Alonso
P8 Stroll
Last year's Hungary race:
P10 Stroll
P11 Alonso
Wow, I suddenly remembered, Alonso was ahead late in the race but Stroll appeared to have better pace so the team told Alonso to let him through, and if Stroll couldn't pass the guy ahead of them, Stroll would give the place back to Alonso. You could hear the team on the radio telling Stroll to give the place back to Alonso but he ignored them. Only a team where the 2nd driver is the son of the owner could he get away with ignoring an order and screwing a double-world champion.
Today's Hungary FP2:
P4 Stroll
P5 Alonso
No one predicted both Aston Martins in the top 10. If they can both qualify in the top 10, they showed last year that they can finish strong. The history was there to learn from, but no one believed that they can do it again.

Alonso is over 40 and had a long career in a physical field. Blinking too many times can aggravate his back

Driving a shitbox probably aggravates him more.

Came on here to see if others experienced the same.

I actually don’t mind it with no commentary. Just listening to the cars go around.

Nobody watching?
Some surprises in Q1. Lawson pushes Yuki out at the last second. Aston Martin looks very strong, as predicted. Piastri out for blood.
