Why in the world would they tell Max to give back the position before a ruling from the stewards?

Because there were only 2 laps left so, since Red Bull figured the stewards would rule against them, giving the position back immediately would provide Max time to try to pass George and move back into fourth.
Obviously it was a bad call by Red Bull management but at the time that was likely their thinking.

All started because they gave away track position to put on the hards. I’ll never understand.

Wow, left before the safety car to go to church and just made it back home to finish the race. Wild ending and I always love Max being stressed.
Happy to see no penalty for Leclerc but that was kind of a weird bump on the straight by him to I guess keep max back a bit? The switch to hards that pissed him off that caused the oversteer that caused Leclerc to get a run on him that allowed the bump to happen that pissed him off and let George pull that move on him that pissed him off again for him to blow up is funny shite. He barely broke a sweat during his last 3 championships. So be it.

Yup, could have easily lasted the last 6 laps on his used Softs he was on.

Not shocked by talking heads and the things they drum up; but a lot of typically cooler heads calling for a race ban because it was so deliberate. Not sure the stewards could have given him 4pts to effect a ban, they may have purposefully held short for the politics part.

That was a very tough race to predict. Williams shocked me with their bad performance and I am not sure if Antonelli's DNF helped me or hurt me. Max's dumbassery definitely hurt me and others I am certain.
