NASCAR implements executive shakeup to prepare for new era, as per story from Sports Business Journal.
The gist of it:
Brian Herbst, Tim Clark, Ben Kennedy, Scott Prime and Michelle Byron are among the NASCAR executives who are being given elevated profiles and responsibilities. The moves will allow NASCAR’s staff to get used to the new structure ahead of 2025 when NASCAR will go from two to five domestic media rights partners, among other big changes.
The restructuring included a small number of layoffs in recent weeks, including the sponsorship sales department, as SBJ previously reported. The exact number of people let go was unclear. NASCAR is showing teams it’s making changes at a time when it’s asking them to tighten their spending.
Steve Phelps in the memo suggested that he’s set to take on a more big-picture role in NASCAR, saying the moves “will allow me to focus more ON THE STRATEGIC VISION AND GLOBAL EXPANSION OF NASCAR-OWNED RACING PROPERTIES, which I believe to be the best and most exciting in the world.”
I added the all caps for the folks who had any hope NASCAR was going to shift its focus back to the tracks they raced on and the people who were in the stands before the “boom.”
They give you one free click so use it well.

I actually don’t care where they race as long as it’s good.
I can’t think of a single track that is consistently compelling because the car is the problem.
Are nascar execs some of the dumbest on the planet?

I saw an old article on Kasey Kahne a few days ago. Anyone know why he abruptly retired and never raced again?
He was so young and won a lot of races in the mid 2000’s.

Health. Went back to dirt. His body couldn’t handle the long races anymore.

Incredible finish in the Xfinity Series race at Indy.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Not surprising. Haas has a thing for Custer, plus Custer’s Dad will basically be running the team.

Pretty good finish. This track is usually boring as hell and a fuel mileage race.
SVG is the real deal. Dude can drive the wheels off a race car.

Surprised Custer isn’t driving 00 next year.
And today was SVG’s best oval race yet. Once he figures them out, lookout.

Great race today. These cars race better than Cup, they slide around more without wrecking.
And what a dumbass the 5 Alfredo was coming across track and causing a big scary wreck. You always keep your lane when in trouble.
I was focused on SVG when in the picture. He finally started to race hard and rubbed a little paint when needed. Really great finish for him. These tracks are still all new to him, never raced on them before so 2nd visit he’ll be much better.
Cup race won’t be as racey due to the clown car, it can’t lose grip or it wrecks. So don’t expect as much fun.

Roland Dane (father of SVG’s girlfriend) used to run Triple 8 Engineering. He said Shane is talented enough as a driver. But he’s equally as talented as a thinker. It does not take Shane long to start putting pieces together.
I remember watching V8s on Speed Channel around 2011. I heard his name and something told me he might try nascar one day. Lol

NBC is in news coverage of the Biden’s decision to drop out of the Presidential election. Cup race coverage will at least start on USA Network.
