I’ve been preaching this forever! Smaller tires and bigger motors! Or tires that wear faster.
And my other idea is Indycar style “Push To Pass” button adding HP for X seconds per race. Has to be more than Indy due to closer racing plus stage endings. But PTP would help. Maybe give so many seconds per stage so use or lose per stage.

I've been saying for 25 years. Lower the rear spoiler, raise the front air dam, soften up the tires, and give them 100 more HP.
Make the drivers actually have to MANAGE the damn car throughout a 500 mile race.

Why does it seem NASCAR wants a sterile product.

For the most part, yes.
More power, less downforce makes them have to really drive the car.
I don't want them to have to manage tires. That is an issue with the racing in F1. Hard tires they can abuse would be good.
A big reason they went to these spec cars is they think every race has to be close.
