Wouldn’t Mercedes be an option in that case too?

Yeah I think Michael pissed a lot of people off. But F1 always said they want manufacturers, they don’t need another haas.
But Michael signed a deal with GM bringing GM along as a manufacturer as part of the application. They still rejected the team for 2026, although F1 suggested that Andretti might be approved to join in 2028. But the next Concorde agreement is being signed in 2026. I think it was a delay tactic to keep them out until the next Concorde agreement, which will either cap the number of teams or make it much harder and far more expensive to join the series, now that even the poorest teams are considered to be worth around $1B.

I didn’t see Mercedes listed. They already supply engines for 4 of the 10 teams.
Audi and Red Bull/Ford will be exempt because they are so new.

Ive liked the idea of Herta in there. Didn't he do a Mclaren test a year or two ago?
What Americans have a super license? Seems like outside of Sargeant, the only current American SL holders would be pushing over the hill. I'm not too hip on the F2 and F3 scene to know if anyone is coming up.

It’s hard to find exact numbers but I think Logan Sargent, Josef Newgarden, Alexander Rossi, and Ricky Taylor are the only Americans currently eligible. Another good season in INDYCAR and Colton Herta would be eligible.

I really doubt he would ever make the move at his age and based on what he's said in the past about F1, but Newgarden would be fun to see what he could do in an F1 car. He's a hometown boy for me, so it'd be very easy to go for him.
The ultimate battle would be Kyle Larson vs Max. Both can drive the wheels off any car they get in.

I think Newgarden or Larson would drop everything in a second for the chance to drive a season in F1. I don’t know if a 35 year old rookie would be the best choice for a new team tho. Neither are really house hold names on a level that would swing the scale marketing wise. Would love to see one of them get a shot tho.

OK my current understanding about the supposed Red Bull wing debacle is that there was a bad translation.
Red Bull did not bring the wrong wings, these are their lowest-downforce wings, that they used at Monza. What they were really saying is that everyone else designed even lower-downforce, lower-drag wings for Las Vegas, but Red Bull did not. Marko was saying that they had no lower-drag wings that they could ship from the factory.

Is this worse? They showed up and got completely blindsided? Or they have just concede the drivers, save money, and stop developing this car knowing Max is gonna win the championship anyway?

Apparently everyone is saving tahrs.

They’ve shown a couple shots of the stands for FP3 and it’s mostly empty.

Zak was interviewed a few mins ago and he said the Cadillac/GM crew is walking around with huge smiles on their faces and he thinks an announcement is imminent.

I want to say that this is bullshite and there's no possible way a serious F1 operation could've made a goof quite like this
Some days I put a tin foil hat on and give an Alex Jones smirk nod. Theres just some head scratching things that have happened. Part of me thinks theres some executive steering committee that saw British/Hamilton fatigue for a while. Then emergnce of DtS and Max sky rocketed popularity and money. Then those same people started making business decisions to not let another Mercedes/Hamilton domination. F1 is so much better and more profitable with parity. Seems like someone is pulling strings sometimes to keep that parity.

Seems the 11th team is a done deal. They are making a point to call them GM and not Andretti tho. Zak Brown sure to mention Ford is hoping too

Perez, man.
Colapinto kicked Albon's arse. Albon out.
Zhou through, Bottas out.
Aston Martin only team with both drivers out.

The Q2 times, before their last runs, is surprisingly tight. The top 10 is separated by 0.64s.
