Just one practice session for the sprint weekend. Looks like Ferrari is the fastest on one-lap pace.

Max and Checo did their qualy sim earlier in the session than everyone else (track is still evolving quickly), but Max still finished P3 just behind the Ferraris. Checo finished P16.

Lawson in his first action in a year is doing well.

I think both Mercedes are having handling issues. Numerous cars had spins or twiches, so a lot them have work to do before sprint qualy.

Didn't they resurface COTA? I'd wager the teams guessed on a new setup and got it wrong.

With weeks between races they could have started the weekend yesterday to give teams more practice sessions.

Hulk down a half second on KMag on both laps in the first sector.

Odd.

COTA is looking treacherous this year. Lots of sideways cars. Spring May get wild.

Max driving very conservatively. I wonder if he's holding back or just already on the edge.

Checo out in SQ2 along with Lawson.

Lawson was P12 but it looks like his lap was deleted because now it shows he is in P15.

Not that it matters since he's starting dead last, but his performances vs Yuki matter, and Yuki went from +2 to +5 in their first qualifying session together. Plus, Yuki can still move up a place or two in SQ3.

Oh wait, is Lawson's grid penalty for the sprint or the main race?

Just got home in time for SQ3 after being busy all weekend. Shocked to not see piastri. They almost look like they are driving kinda timid

Both Haas cars will start the sprint in the points.

The first 8 places are tight, but then a big gap. KMag's one-lap pace is 0.4s faster than Yuki. Haas might have a good chance to pass VCARB in the constructors points in the last few races.

With both Gameday and F1 being in Austin this weekend, what F1 driver or personality would you most like to see attempt Pat McAfee’s $100,000 field goal (for charity) and why?
