I knew Vegas was going to be a night race but didn't realize that times would be so late. Qualifying will start at 2AM central with the race starting at midnight.
I get that it's really an ad for Vegas tourism aimed at the world outside of the US so that's why the start times are late but it still seems weird to have a race in the US that'll do nothing to grow the sport here. Plus the temps will probably be in the 40's for qualifying and the GP so expect complaining about that.

Ricciardo already had that seat and didn’t do well. I get that he’s a big personality. He’s also basically a washed up F1 driver.

He did well in the seat given the capabilities of the car at that time. Just had completely unrealistic expectations of what his value was.

It’s not basically, he is. His results from the last few years bear that out. Including his performance in the AT this year compared to Lawson. The obsession with him getting the 2nd Red Bull seat makes no sense.

The VF-23 will look more like a Red Bull in Austin.
The list of new parts is long: side pods, underbody, cooling shafts, cooling gills, engine cover, brake linings, heat shields.
....The US racing team rented a garage on the highway towards San Antonio through a former employee in order to be able to quietly fit the two cars for Hülkenberg and Magnussen with the new parts. It wouldn't have been possible to get hands on in the garage at the track until Tuesday. The FIA has approved Haas' conversion plan.
New concept more predictable
The old concept had reached the end of its possibilities. "No matter what we screwed on the car, it didn't get any faster," says operations manager Ayao Komatsu. Steiner adds: "The delta between what was forecast for the racetrack and what actually arrived became larger and larger. With each modification, the data promised progress that could not be implemented. The new concept should be more robust in this respect. "
How do you know if the upgrade hasn't driven a meter yet? In recent months, Haas has taken on board some of the competition's engineers. Also from Red Bull. And they have reported from their own experience that certain concepts in the simulation produce deceptive results and others are more reliable.
Return of the Garagistas? I like it.
Find it interesting they've hired some people from RB. First I have heard of that. Moneygram (and soon to be Alfa?) money being spent.

Stupid as frick to waste that seat on Riccardo. Put Yuki there and you'd get the same or better results. Riccardo is washed.

More pressure on a guy that has shown he cannot handle pressure.
Nice.

Horner also wants rid of Yuki Tsunoda, the AlphaTauri driver, a decision which would require Honda to write a cheque of $10m.

Honda probably covers Yuki out of their own money and gives him to RBR as a driver.
If they do not have a suitable driver to put in that seat they instead have to pay for one or pay full price for the sponsorship.
It is similar to paying for a driver spot, Honda is just not giving RBR the money to give Yuki.

One week out for USGP and the weather is looking warm and dry in Austin.
At least Danny RIC will be back and Haas might have some more pace.
Still hoping for a Ferrari or a McLaren strong showing to make it interesting.

Looked rainy earlier in the week, but the weather is looking nice now.
Mid-90s may have people dropping in the stands though. 80s is normally pretty roasty for the stands.

Got GA tickets for this weekend, any tips from those have been before? Absolutely pumped!

If his race helmet is an A&M replica, I hope he loses his seat.

If you are going Friday/Saturday walk the whole track and scope out a place for Sunday. Look for places that have views of corners that might have some overtaking and may have a view across the track to some other spots.
Get there early on Sunday. Over the last few years the race has gotten so crowded that its tough to find a good spot to park a chair for GA. when I first went in 2018 I got there pretty much as the race was starting and had a great view the whole race. Went in 2022 and couldn't get close to that spot even though I was a couple of hours early.

quote:well this is stupid, saw articles now claiming how this is the perfect time for a race to go off for the Vegas lights experience. Piss off with that crap, only reason it was done is so the euro fans can catch it Sunday morning. Guess I’ll be watching the on demand version of the race and qualifying which is really odd for a race in the states.quote:

I like Lawson and I think he should be in F1 next year, and I think he has a higher ceiling than Yuki. But Red Bull knows they made a mistake with Albon, promoting him way too soon. I think they'll want Lawson in the AT for a season before promoting him. I believe they want to fire Perez and put Danny in the Red Bull next year, but they still need Danny to prove himself in the AT first, and I think they must have been pretty unhappy with his injury delaying their evaluation. If Danny is no better than Yuki the rest of the season, I would promote Yuki.
The public vibe from Red Bull is that Perez simply needs to finish the season P2 in the championship. But over the last three races McLaren has scored significantly more points than Red Bull. If they continue to outscore Red Bull the rest of the season, then P2 in the championship is not a sufficient metric for Perez. I have to believe they are looking for a reason to fire him so they'll have room for Lawson next year. The guy's too good to not be in F1 next year.
