Perez finished outside the top 2 eight times so far this year while driving the car that has won every single race with ease.

Honest question, do you think Perez car is just as good as Max's. Max has no advantage at all? If that is the case, sure, a change is fine. I personally don't believe that to be the case.

Most of his non top 2 finishes were a result of qualifying, which is on him. But I don't think there is a driver that you could say "ok this guy would definitely finish in 2nd place every single race." If Max has a DNF and it happens to be a week where Checco isn't in 2nd place then that is enough to let him go? It's hard to imagine Max even having a DNF, it happen to be a week Checco doesn't get second, and Red Bulls's reaction is "OMG the house is on fire! Checco started the fire!"

And assuming RB continues to have the same advantage over the field in the coming seasons is not realistic. Perez will cost them a lot of points as the field closes up on RB.

How long does "the coming seasons?" I would find it much more unrealistic for Red Bull to lose an advantage/be challenged while Checco is under contract than I would for them to lose the advantage. Max is already having a more dominant season than Lewis ever had and I can see them being as good for 5-6 year stretch. Checco won't be there that long, but I'd be surprised if he ever finished lower than second overall for the rest of his current contract, much less cost them any critical points.

Could argue that Perez already cost them one championship.

The timing for Singapore is how I wish they could all be.

FP1: 4:30am Friday
FP2: 8am Friday
FP3: 4:30am Saturday
Quali: 8am Saturday
Race: 7am Sunday

Watch FP1 replay while having coffee and getting ready for work Friday, dick off for the first hour of work watching FP2, FP3 replay Saturday morning usually right before quali, get up on Sunday, watch most of the race before the rest of the household is even out of bed and still have the whole day left to do whatever we want.

I wish they all lined up that way.

Yes.

Perez has even said they are identical.

Do you think Racey Spice would intentionally give the Mex an inferior car, guaranteeing poor qualifying and race finishes?

Max doesn't need the help. lolzzz

I think the car setup is the same, but I think the better and more accurate question would be if the car is designed to Max’s strength as a driver and Perez just can’t get the most out of this well designed machine.

Because simply he isn’t on the level or even drive the same type of race as Max.

Newey would laugh at this.

Max is a beast right now. Mind and body right. The best driver and car tend to meet up. Does the car fit Max? Yes, obly because Max makes the car fit him at the same time.

Max, and Chuck for that matter, like pointy cars. Loose is fast and they can handle it.

Perez and Sainz are not comfortable with a pointy car.

The RB is pointy just like Max likes it.

The Ferrari is a plowing pig since the TD last year. Coincidentally that also fits Harry Potter's fav driver better. He's gone but they were stuck with the car.

Pointy is such an F1 term... Top drivers generally like loose cars.

Understeer is always the term I hear used.

Except Alonso who just wants a psycho fast car.

What the curse with Nico and selfies that I saw a clip from SkySports about?

Fans were asking him to take a selfie with Max ahead of Singapore... They then went on to talk about some curse and him posting something about Ferrari prior to last week.

Whoever he chooses to win he usually takes a selfie with.

And they inevitably lose.

But there is hope on the horizon. Haas has been working on a major upgrade for two months now, which should be ready by the home game in Austin. Team boss Guenther Steiner already announced it in Zandvoort: "We will be heavily modifying the car to better understand which direction we have to go next year."

The concept of the Haas VF-23 is closely based on the Ferrari. This is not surprising, as the US racing team buys the majority of the parts under the fairing from Ferrari. This defines the basic architecture of the car. The Haas technicians under Simone Resta have now realized that this concept has reached a dead end. “No matter what we do, we can’t find a lap time anymore,” regrets Steiner.

The high and wide side boxes with the cooling outlets on the top dilute the so-called “downwash” principle. The wishbones of the rear suspension stand in the way of the flow. This makes it more difficult to seal the underbody against the turbulence of the rear wheels and limits the diffuser effect. Ferrari has the same problem. The more downforce you add in theory, the further away reality becomes from the wind tunnel data.

While Ferrari trusts its simulation tools and is only making minor retouches to its SF-23 this year, Haas wants to know exactly. The expansion stage planned for Austin deserves the name B version. The converted Haas will look more like a Red Bull on the outside. The underbody, side pods and engine cover adopt elements from the fastest car in the field.

Because the chassis, transmission, radiator installation and suspension must remain the same, Haas engineers can only implement part of what they plan for 2024. The basic architecture of the car imposes certain compromises. But the team has to take this risk. “The risk would be even greater if we only discovered in Bahrain in 2024 that something was wrong with our new path,” confirms Steiner.

Haas wants to collect data for the next season and insights for the VF-24 in the last five Grands Prix of the season. Even if the step initially goes sideways. Such a big step rarely works right away.

But the technicians can already see that it offers significantly more potential than the current car. "McLaren has shown that you can make a big leap with a change of concept. It's no use just adding new parts to your existing car and still standing still," Steiner encourages himself and his team.

A radical step will follow in 2024. Then Haas will also build a new chassis and get the new transmission from Ferrari. Both components are heavily tailored on the underside based on the Red Bull model in order to have more aerodynamic freedom in the air flow above and below the base plate. The suspensions are then also adapted to this concept. It helps that Ferrari will be heading in the same direction.

If HAAS really wants to make inroads in the States, they need a winning American driver, such as touchedtheaxein82, Herta, or Kirkwood.

Oh I just found out that on Virgin Galactic Flight 03 this morning, one of the passengers was none other than Adrian Reynard.

cbsnews.com/news/virgin-galactic-launches-third-suborbital-space-tourist-flight/

Reynard produced the dominant mid/late 90s IndyCar chassis during the heyday of CART.

Later Reynard and Craig Pollock partnered with British American Tobacco to buy the assets of Tyrell and form the BAR F1 team, which later became Honda, then Brawn, then Mercedes.

On his web site, Reynard says that he was the very first person to sign up as an astronaut with Virgin Galactic in 2004. A former boss of mine also was one of the 'founders', the first 100 people to sign up. He purchased four tickets in 2004 and now it's 19 years later. I need to ask him if his flight is scheduled yet. I will go down to New Mexico and watch his flight.

COTA must have had some problems with selling General Admission tickets this year. Was in Costco. They must have had close to 1000 of these.

Online, a 3 day GA ticket is going for $475 + Fees and Tax from Ticketmaster. That's the official price.

On SeatGeek, they are available as low as $340. We are over a month out and prices are already lower that when they were first announced. Probably going to see those come down a lot more. I think maybe COTA overpriced them a bit this year.

The promoter clarified that they have sold the tickets at Costco in the past, but this is the first time they have gotten coverage.

Also, those are general admission tix. COTA oversells those and it contributes to a terrible GA experience.
